Lakers’ Buss gets 5 years probation, fine for DUI
September 4th, 2007 . by DellUpon seeing this headline, I was surprised to say the least. Not because the crime was so uncommon, but because of how the story has been widely ignored on television. Not only was he legally drunk, he was driving on the wrong side of the road, with a 23 year old chick in the car (who I will assume is an escort until proved otherwise) and was allegedly under the influence of an unspecified substance (he refused to take a chemical test)… Let this soak in for a moment.
VISTA, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor drunken driving. Buss was sentenced to five years’ probation and fined $1,900. He was not required to appear in court.
Buss also admitted he drove with a blood-alcohol level of .13%, above the state limit of .08%. He owns a home in northern San Diego County and was arrested in nearby Carlsbad in May after being stopped for driving his gold Mercedes-Benz on the wrong side of the road.Buss was under the influence of an unspecified drug but refused to take a chemical test, according to a criminal complaint filed by the district attorney’s office. He was arrested after failing a field sobriety test.
If Tony Dungy was pulled over tomorrow, high, drunk, and driving on the wrong side of the road with a hooker, you can best believe that shit would be on ESPN 24/7. When Terrell Owens accidentally took too many pain pills last year, ESPN had “experts” talking about his troubled childhood on the air within 3 hours, but with Jerry Buss… nothing.
I don’t even think I have to say why this story has been buried….
