The Big Bad Media Bully and Marv Albert The Rapist

koolaid1small.jpgThis is part 1 in a series on the sports media’s vigilante justice, and the masses who drink the kool-aid

There are few things I dislike more than the sports media. The notion that the very people who are supposed to deliver the unfiltered truth to the public, are some of the fakest, gang mentality having hypocrites in the world just doesn’t sit too well. Whats even more disturbing is the large majority of the public who are willing to sit there and be fed bullsh-t without questioning motives.

Every time I see an athlete being demonized on ESPN for having guns, driving drunk, allegedly taking steroids, racial comments, smoking weed or whatever it may be, I cringe a bit. Don’t misinterpret me, at the end of the day, if someone paid me millions of dollars to obey the law, I’d probably do so with no qualms. So when I see an athlete in trouble, I do recognize how part of them is a huge idiot for simply putting themselves in a situation to jeopardize that.

Some of the journalistic gangbangs I see the media pull on certain athletes is sickening. I wouldn’t have a problem with this if everyone got an equal amount of scrutiny, but it’s hugely unfair to see certain individuals picked out and torn apart, while others get off fairly easy for their mistakes. This is where Marv Albert comes in..marv-albert-rape-sodomy.jpg

Sports fans over the age of 23 or so will remember back in 1997 when Marv Albert was arrested for forcibly sodomizing a woman, and biting her on the back numerous times. Just for effect I’ll put that in plain words.. He raped her in the asshole. A woman. A human being. Forcibly raped. Marv eventually cut a deal and got off easy, pleading to a lesser charge and not spending a day in jail. Not even two years later, Marv was back on the air with NBC calling the NBA playoffs. Sure, the media had their way with Marv during his trial, but the entire thing blew over relatively fast when you put it in perspective.

Don’t you find it odd, that as of RIGHT NOW, the average American is more likely to call Terrell Owens the scum of the earth, but shake Marv Albert’s hand? Start thinking for yourselves… for the love of god.

So last month when I seen the comments from most people concerning Michael Vick, it was shocking. What he did was stupid, and it was cruel. Electrocuting dogs is extremely foul, I can’t get behind that at all, but during the entire circus I made sure to put things in perspective. Michael tortured animals, I love dogs as much as the next guy, but theres a very thick line between a canine and a human being. People everywhere are saying Vick should be banned for life for his crimes against animals, when more heinous crimes committed by others in sports don’t garner the same punishment.

Are you willing to let Marv Albert back into your homes while earning a huge salary after violating a woman and admitting to it, but Michael Vick shouldn’t be allowed back on the field for what he did to a dog? I could go on and on about Michael Vick, but I’ll save that for a later date.

What about the Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brett Myers who beat his wife in public, just down the road from the ballpark? The Phillies didn’t even suspend him, and he never went to jail. His wife refused to go forward with the case, and a few months later the entire situation was deaded.

Compare that to someone like Ricky Williams, who hasn’t laid a finger on anybody. He’s been all but banished from the NFL for smoking joints. Ricky is eligible for reinstatement to the NFL next month, but will have a hell of a time actually getting back into the league. The Miami Dolphins don’t want him, and most teams probably agree with them. Ricky is absolutely shredded in the media, and when you look at the grand scheme of things, what has he really done wrong?

Why are two men who rape and beat women allowed to return to their high paying professions with not much hoo-hah but two others will be kept out by all means necessary? These are just a couple of the MANY examples of how the media enforce their brand of vigilante justice on certain players, while the public and league members eat it up without thinking for themselves.

Look for part 2 soon.

I agree with your statements. I don’t watch sports much, but have been aware of these various issues that have arisen in the past. People are sheeple, plain and simple.

This is the first time seeing this. I agree whole-heartedly with you on this! I have been “itching” to get on somebody’s sports talk radio show and bring Mr. Albert.

I totally dislike marv albert only because of his getting away with this so-called misdemeanor. I have never forgotten. he is supposed to be in prison. the judge must have been joyce karlin or one that is as ignorant (maybe stupid) as her. this shows that the nuts who employ albert are corrupt and protective of corruption which is too much a part of america. I am happy that I found this writing because I was beginning to think nobody else cared. it’s a lonely feeling.
