Evander Holyfield = Trent Green; Diaz vs. Diaz; Jeff Lacy vs. Peter Manfredo

October 12th, 2007 . by Dell

EvanderYou know how when someone has a really old dog thats becoming more trouble than it’s worth, they take it for a loooooooong drive and either ditch it, or put it out of its misery? Thats what Evander Holyfields trainers are doing this Saturday, why do you think they’re fighting all the way in Russia? Evander isn’t coming home, he is the Trent Green of boxing. He’s taken more shots to the grill than Jenna Jameson and theres simply no gas left in the tank.

By the way, his opponent is named Sultan Ibragimov for the six people that care.

That being said… I’m actually rooting for Holyfield to pull through, anytime an American is competing against a foreigner I almost always pull for them, I admit I’m biased. The one exception being his bouts against Lennox Lewis, I rooted for Lennox because I was still bitter about Holyfield beating up Mike Tyson. I still hold resentment to this day. But to get back on topic, I’ll try to live blog the Evander fight, in the off chance that I’m right and he has a seizure in the ring or something, you’ll hear the news here first on Sportaphile.

Diaz vs. DiazLater that night, Juan Diaz vs. Julio Diaz battle each other in a lightweight unification fight. If you only watch boxing casually, you have no idea who these two men are, and couldn’t care less right? Thats where I come in, if they happen to beat the bloody hell out of each other in an exciting fight, I got y’all covered… I’ll definitely live blog this because I suspect it’ll be high action. While the majority of the media will be covering Holyfield’s euthanasia overseas, hardcore boxing fans are eyeing this Diaz fight as the highlight of this weekend.

Lastly, Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy has signed with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions for a string of fights. His first ‘test’ will be against Peter Manfredo Jr. of The Contender fame. The common bond these two men share are they both got the snot beaten out of them by Joe Calzaghe, so this will be like a 2nd runner up fight of sorts. I have my money on Lacy for a mid round stoppage.
