Evander Holyfield vs. Sultan Ibragimov Round By Round
October 13th, 2007 . by Dell
Evander is looking to become the first five time heavyweight champ in history this afternoon when he faces Sultan Ibragimov for the WBO title. If Holyfield gets into any trouble during the course of the fight, I don’t expect the refs and ringside doctors to cut him any slack. An early stoppage is very possible due to the fact that most experts are worried about his physical wellbeing. So aside from the fact that Evander is 1,000 years old, his fight will be made even tougher due to the fact he can’t let himself get involved in a tough physical fight.
The fighters are entering the ring right now. Refresh this page every 4 minutes for updates
Round 1 –
Both guys come out flicking the jab, trying to feel each other out and find a range. Not much action, a typical first round where the fighters are cautious and look to study their opponents timing. Sultan landed a pretty good left hand midway through the round, Evander lands an even better right hand near the end.
Even Round
Round 2 –
Both fighters come out slow again, nobody has found a comfortable rhythm. Alot of fainting and posturing, no significant shots landed yet. Sultan pops holyfield with a few good shots, Holyfield fires back with no success. Holyfield lands the best punch of the fight with 5 seconds left.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 3 –
Ibragimov lands some nice shots to start the round. The two dance and faint through the middle of the round with no real action. In the last minute Ibragimov lands a few nice shots, ripping into Holyfield, who blocks half of the punches.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 4 –
Holyfield isn’t throwing many punches whatsoever. He isn’t taking a beating, but he will not win this fight unless he opens up. Getting behind on the cards this early could be disasterous. Ibragimov hasn’t landed any significant shots but thusfar he’s been the busier fighter. Holyfield really needs to get himself into the action.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 5 –
Holyfields trainer advised him to get busier and open up the offense at the end of the last round. Evander looks fresh, bouncing and moving around, but he still isn’t throwing many punches. Ibragimov isn’t landing many punches either, but they’re more frequent than Evanders. It’ll be a shame if he cruises to a victory without even hurting the man.
They’re playing Linkin Park between rounds…. russians are weird
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 6 -
Sultan comes out jabbing with not much success, Holyfield throws a quick combo thats blocked. The crowd is cheering for Ibragimov to do something. The two mix it up and Holyfield eats a hard left, he doesn’t seem to be hurt however. Sultan is opening up in the last minute of the round, landing a series of lefts. Evander wasn’t hurt by any of them but he isn’t scoring any shots of his own.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 7-
Not much action, Holyfield is pressing the action but not throwing many punches. Ibragimov is finding a home with the left hand. As this fight goes on it could begin to take its toll on Holyfield. Right before the end of the round Sultan lands two hard shots. Evanders trainers are PLEADING with him to throw punches.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 8 –
Ibragimov has found a working method, landing a steady stream of left hands, none of which are terribly effective but they’re finding a home. Evander can’t figure out how to get off. Both fighters are turning in terribly mediocre performances, but Holyfield’s is just a little bit worse. Holyfield landed a couple of hard right hands, but they were few and very far in between.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 9 -
Holyfield’s corner has been honest with him that he’s losing, but he still isn’t able to show much urgency in the ring. Ibragimov is finding success with quick potshots and retreats. Sultan is doubling and tripling up on the jab. They briefly mix it up at the end of the round with not much damage done.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 10-
Ibragimov comes out and lands a GREAT body shot. Holyfield visibly shows that he’s hurt and backs into the ropes. Sultan fails to capitalize and jump on him, possibly thinking Holyfield is playing possum. That was the best punch of the fight thusfar. Sultan is landing his jab at will. Holyfield lands two great rights at the end of the round, but it’s too little too late.
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 11 -
The crowd is chanting for Ibragimov to step up the action, the fight has taken on a painful pattern. Holyfield stalks Sultan, pressing the action (without throwing any punches), and Ibragimov proceeds to tag him with left hands. Holyfield missed a big right in the early part of the round and fell on his shoulder. That was the highlight of round 11
10-9 Ibragimov
Round 12 –
This is without a doubt one of the most painful fights I’ve witnessed all year. Holyfield comes out and lands a nice right hand, Sultan grabs on and prevents Evander from inflicting more damage. Holyfield has a sense of urgency and is throwing more punches, but Sultan is dong a good job of staying away and jabbing. If he had fought like this the entire fight we’d have a different scorecard.
10-9 Holyfield
The announcers gave Holyfield three rounds, I only gave him one (its feasible he won the very first round since I called it even). The judges shouldn’t have a very tough time giving the unanimous decision to the champ.
The scorecards are in:
118-110
117-111
117-111
Sultan Wins easily
During the post fight interviews, Evander says he is in no way done with boxing, and he will fight another day. He says he isn’t worried about his reputation. (he should be, he looked horrible).
Horrible fight. Absolutely dreadful.

russian girls r sweet!
love the round by rounds. it’s time for evander to hang up his gloves
