Jermain Taylor / Kelly Pavlik Rematch In February

October 24th, 2007 . by Dell

The fighters who brought us the most exciting bout of 2007 will lock up again, possibly before next spring. Jermain Taylor has exercised the rematch clause in his contract, allowing him a shot to regain his title from Kelly Pavlik.

In case you’ve been living under a rock this fall, Pavlik shocked the world by knocking out Taylor in a stunning upset (click here to see the video). The rematch will most likely take place at 166 pounds, slightly heavier than the limit for their last matchup.

Is February too soon for Taylor to come back after a devastating knockout loss? I remember Shane Mosley rushing back after losses to Winky Wright and Vernon Forrest only to lose convincingly in both matches. To his credit, Taylor did almost knock Pavlik out and could have continued the fight had he taken a knee in the last round. The crash of Pavlik’s fists bouncing off his skull could have possibly played a role in clouding his judgment though.

What do you guys think?

Yeah that fight was a total shock/upset to me…props to Pavlik dude was game.

I think Jermaine should be better than he is…he is a tad stiff, not very fluid. Having Emanual Steward in his corner I’d think he can come back from this set back..and to jump right back on the dude might be a good thing. I think he needs to work on his defense and variety/angles of punches..Turn the guy more. I hope this isn’t a case of Pavilk finding Taylor’s weakness…and being the blueprint for how to beat him like what happened to Roy Jones and a few others. I need an american champion dammit.
