Joe Calzaghe and Mikkel Kessler’s Super Middleweight Showdown This Saturday

November 1st, 2007 . by Dell

Two undefeated super middleweight champions face off Saturday evening in a unification title fight, Joe Calzaghe (43-0, 32 KOs) faces off against Mikkel Kessler (39-0, 29 KOs). All signs point to this being an action packed fight that will entertain even the most casual boxing spectator.
Calzaghe vs. Kessler

We’ll be live blogging this fight on Saturday night. Hopefully it won’t be as painfully boring as the Holyfield fight we did a few weeks ago.

If time permits, we’ll also deliver round by round coverage of Juan Manuel Marquez (47-3, 35 KOs) vs Rocky Juarez (27-3, 19 KOs) and Robert Guerrero (20-1-1, 13 KOs) vs. Martin Honorio (24-3-1, 12 KOs).

Although Calzaghe has been a titleholder for years, he didn’t receive notoriety in the United States until he defeated Jeff “Left Hook” Lacy last year. He followed up that victory with an even more impressive win against an overrated Peter Manfredo Jr. One of the Sportaphile readers who posts under the name “Sal Pugliares” insists that Manfredo actually had a shot in that fight, even though he did nothing but lay on the ropes and receive a drubbing for the entire fight.

I personally want to see Kessler come through with the victory, mostly because I fit into the stereotype of an American who wants to see Calzaghe beaten for what he did to Jeff Lacy…. sue me.
