Barry Bonds Indicted By Federal Grand Jury For Perjury

November 15th, 2007 . by Dell

Barry Bonds has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for perjury and obstruction of justice.

The oddest thing about this case is the EXTREME legal nitpicking going on. For those who don’t know, or maybe don’t remember. Barry Bonds already admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs when he testified years ago. Bonds says he didn’t knowingly take them. At the very heart of this case, they want to throw him in jail over semantics.

Tomato, Tomahto. What the hell is the difference?

I’m not entirely sure how bad this is for him, considering the fact that they HAD to hurry up and do this before the statute of limitations ran out at the end of 2008. They’ve been trying to nail him for about four years now, so I’m not sure if they’ve made a miraculous breakthrough, or if time simply forced their hands. I’m also not exactly sure how they can pin him down since Victor Conte says he’s innocent, and Greg Anderson sits in jail because he refuses to talk. Barry can look on the bright side and say “At least I’m not O.J.”

Another odd thing about this entire situation, is other sports figures like Mike Golic who admitted to taking steroids will sleep well tonight. I realize Mike Golic didn’t lie under oath and therefore did not commit perjury, but what exactly is the big deal?? They both took steroids.

The justice system works in weird ways. I hate to do the following, but business is business.

Barry will now be arrested, or choose to turn himself in voluntarily and enter a plea (which will be not guilty).

Bonds faces four counts of perjury, and one count of obstruction of justice. Each count of perjury carries up to 5 years in prison and 3 years supervised release. The obstruction charge carries up to 10 years in prison and 3 years supervised release. Each felony count is 100 points in the Criminal Fantasy League.

We can now officially add the allegation of using performance enhancing drugs which is 50 points. This adds up to 550 points, which kicks off the wild winter Baesball is sure to have. If you’re new to the Criminal Fantasy thing, click HERE and scroll down to read the rules.
