I hadn’t planned to do a round by round live blog for this one, but it seems too good to pass up. This one has the potential to be too exciting. For all of the pre fight hype and predictions CLICK HERE.

The ref is giving instructions, the first round is underway!

Round 1 - Mayorga charges and immediately starts clubbing Vargas wildly, none of the shots land effectively as Vargas blocks most. Vargas catches Mayorga with a semi low blow, and as Mayorga complains to the ref, Vargas clocks him with a hook. After a wild sixty seconds to start the match each man settles in a little. Mayorga connects with wild hooks with thirty seconds left, down goes Vargas, he’s a little stunned. Vargas gets up at the count of five.

Round 2 - Vargas comes out energized and starts ripping shots into mayorga. These guys are talking major shit to each other in between each blow, the ref is trying to calm them down. With about two minutes left mayorga lands with a stiff body punch which sends vargas back into the ropes. Mayorga lands two big rights which stun vargas and proceeds to talk smack after each one. Anybody can tell that these guys are taking this personal.. someones gonna get knocked the hell out soon.

Round 3 - Mayorga staggers Vargas 30 seconds into the round and proceeds to pour on the punishment. Vargas is clearly rattled but not backing down at all, he’s game for a brawl. Vargas lands a GREAT shot with two minutes left and slightly buckles mayorga. Vargas is digging in once he realized he hurt his opponent. Each man is swinging for the fences, Vargas has a cut above his left eye.. this was a VERY close round… I’m gonna call this one even, but the announcers gave it to Mayorga…

Round 4 - The guys are fighting inside and tying up a little more. Vargas is digging shots to the body, which is the best way to slow mayorga down. Vargas is looking like the more active fighter. Mayorga rallies with 20 seconds left in the round but doesn’t do enough damage to make up for what Vargas did earlier.

Round 5 - Vargas ccomes out ripping shots to the body immediately. Vargas lands a heavy right which snaps Mayorga’s head back, and mayorga asks for more. With half the round gone this is Vargas’ advantage. This has been a slow round compared to most…

Round 6 - These guys have never been known for their world class conditioning so they both come out slower than in previous rounds. Mayorga isn’t muching as much, and Vargas is snapping the jab, if things continue at this pace it does not look well for Ricardo. The guys stand toe to toe and slug it out for the last 20 seconds of the round, VERY exciting stuff… close round

Round 7- I cant believe this fight made it to round 7. mayorga looks better than he has in the last few rounds, he’s throwing punches and not letting vargas establish the jab. Mayorga has caught Vargas with two big shots during the round, the biggest change here is the fact that Vargas is now walking backwards. In the last two rounds he’s been coming forward with the jab

Round 8 - Mayorga coms out energized potshotting and showboating for the crowd. Although Mayorga is throwing shots Vargas is still coming forward trying to pressure him. With only one minute left in the round Vargas hasn’t landed any punch of signficance at all. The guys mix it up a little as the round closes with Ricardo getting the better of the action.

Round 9 - Ricardo comes out headhunting, loading up big shots but none of them land cleanly. Vargas is trying to re establish the jab and gain control of the fight. Both guys are clearly tired but Mayorga is trying to dance and keep Vargas off balance. Vargas is rallying landing hard shots, the crowd is roaring in support now Mayorga is battling back. Great round of action..

Round 10 - Seriously!!! I cannot believe they’re still fighting. Not that I’m complaining because the fight is action packed. Mayorga comes out with a little fire and rips off some wild combos. Half of the shots land but dont appear to do any serious damage. Another extremely close round…

Round 11- Fernando comes out defensive, circling to his right and avoiding mayorga’s punches. Vargas hasn’t done much of anything offense wise. Mayorga is taking advantage of the situation and continues to throw alot of punches (which arent really landing). With 1 minute left in the round mayorga is slightly ahead based on being busy alone. Mayorga lands a shot at the bell and Vargas goes down!!! It wasnt a powerful shot and Vargas wasn’t hurt but it counts as a knockdown anyways.

Round 12- The guys come out with a little fire trying to close out the fight, Mayorga is slightly busier. Vargas is stalking his opponent looking for an opening but isnt throwing alot of punches. Ricardo is celebrating by raising his hand between punches, he seems absolutely certain he’s won the match. Fight over….

Ricardo Mayorga Wins by majority decision! The 11th round knockdown completely changed the fight and sealed the win.
