2007 NFL Playoff Predictions: Wildcard Round

December 31st, 2007 . by Dell

I am in no place to start making new predictions since my horrible failure with the “New England Patriots thing”, but I’m a glutton for punishment.

Are you looking for predictions for the Divisional Round? CLICK HERE!!

Washington vs. Seattle – The Seahawks SHOULD win, being that they’re division champs and boast a 7-1 record at home, not to mention they have more playoff experience than Washington. However, the ‘Skins are the hotter team right now and are arguably playing the best football in the NFC. Seattle also hasn’t played anyone with a winning record since November 4th against the Browns (and they lost). In fact Seattle hasn’t played more than 4 teams with a winning record all year, can you say fraud?

Winner: Washington

Tennessee vs. San Diego – Question, who’s the only team to defeat the Titans in the last month? Answer, the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers also beat the Titans in Tennessee, this time the game will be taking place on the westcoast. Albert Haynesworth can’t stay healthy, neither can Vince Young, and lets not forget about the Madden curse. I’m taking San Diego to win this game by less than 10 points. Besides, if Tennessee won this game they’d be going to New England next week in an absolute blowout, and we don’t want that do we? The Browns would have been so much more fun to watch in the postseason.

Winner: San Diego

New York vs. Tampa Bay – This is easily the most difficult game to pick in the wildcard round. It’s difficult to gauge what Tampa Bay team will show up because they’ve been somewhat resting their players for the last three weeks. Will they be able to turn it on and get in sync against an inspired New York Giants team? If NY plays like they did last week against the Patriots they’ll take this, I believe they can.

Winner: New York

Jacksonville vs. Pittsburgh – As soon as Willie Parker broke his leg, I knew Pittsburgh’s playoff hopes were gone. They are capable of winning with Najeh Davenport, but not against elite AFC teams. Sure they can move the ball, but the threat of a home run play with a speedy back is now gone. Defenses can now gamble a little more than they could when Parker was still in the lineup. This game will be close, but I’m giving it to Jacksonville. The only thing that worries me about the Jaguars is if they can finally get over the hump and show up in a BIG game.

Winner: Jacksonville

You think there is an argument to be made that the skins are best in the NFC? That’s quite a statement.

No, I said theres an argument to be made the skins are playing the best ball “right now” in the NFC. There’s a little bit of a difference there.

Teams who go into the playoffs hot tend to have success.

I think you are completley right about all the games excpet the Titans v. Chargers game. The titans are hot right now and San Diego has been coasting into the playoffs knowing they could take it easy to win the division. Why don’t you think the Titans hard work is going to pay off now in the playoffs?

I agree with all of your picks. On the Tennessee/SD game, I’m not really convinced about the titans. I can’t believe Jeff Fisher was actually entertaining the thought of starting Kerry Collins.

Vince Young maybe inconsistent but at least he can scramble. As far as San Diego is concerned, it is a wonder that they made the playoffs. They made the playoffs because the teams that they have played in the second half of the season were weak teams. I still think Norv Turner ruined that team.

I agree will all your picks as well.

Other than i believe SD is going to smash the Titans this time around! we will see Sunday!

From an unbiased Eagles fan I hereby say:
    ‘Skins 42
    Seahawks 5
(Todd Collins runs out of the end zone as time expires)
