There’s a lot of grumbling around town in regards to the fight between Felix Trinidad and Roy Jones because both guys are on the downside of their careers. Felix Trinidad hasn’t beaten a world class fighter since 2000 when he knocked out Fernando Vargas. Roy Jones Jr hasn’t done so since 2003 when he captured the heavyweight title from John Ruiz. It’s completely understandable why someone wouldn’t be interested in this fight……..I’m not one of those people.

Random Thoughts upon watching:

1. Like Floyd Mayweather, and Oscar De La Hoya, Roy Jones has issues with his father. Is there something about training your son that eventually turns them against you?

2. Felix Trinidad’s wife looks good after five kids.

3. Roy Jones and Kimbo Slice are the co-holders of the “nappiest chests in America” title.

4. Larry Merchant seems genuinely concerned for Roy, the old bastard has a soft spot after all.

I’m looking forward to this fight because I want to know who still has something left in the tank. Roy was one of the most dominant fighters in our generation, Trinidad has a regal pedigree and wants to end his career on a high note. I think Roy Jones will easily defeat Tito because he’s been the more active guy over the last few years. He also has more incentive and motivation to pull out this win, this is the moment he’s been waiting for every since Antonio Tarver put him to sleep.
