Tonight is the night, which old bastard has the most left in the tank? The general consensus among fans is that Felix Trinidad will win this fight by K.O. Both fighters are predicting they will knock their opponent out in under 4 rounds.
Sportaphile is throwing caution into the wind, and thinks Roy Jones will emerge victorious. Keep in mind, Felix Trinidad hasnt beaten ANY world class fighters since he knocked out Fernando Vargas in 2000. The only person of note Tito has beaten since then is Ricardo Mayorga, who has the boxing skills of a 5th grader. (I love Ricardo Mayorga, but its true).

Tito comes out calm but confident, firing off two power shots. Jones looks ver tentative. Roy Jones’ speed and defense are definitely on display, Tito cant find an opening to land any good shots. The problem is Roy isnt throwing many shots of his own. Tito lands one or two shots that could have been low. Roy is pot shotting every now and then…

Trinidad is the busier fighter at the moment… working the body. Possibly trying to slow Jones down over the long haul. It looks like Roy is biding him time.. Trinidad is very busy but it doesnt look like its phasing jones. Just as the round ends Jones comes alive with a flurry

Roy is definitely playing a dangerous game, choosing to counterpunch and rely on his defense instead of going in offensively. Trinidad is trying to pound roy and wear him down. Roy is taunting tito… laying in the corner inviting him in to throw more punches…. It’s entertaining.. but it’s not winning him any points.

Roy is definitely more active in this round… mixing it up more than he has in the previous three. Trinidad hasn’t changed his game since the start. Roy is finally establishing a jab, and showing signs of life.

Jones’ power and speed is becoming a factor.. he’s having his way with tito but not hurting him… Within the last one minute of the round Tito comes on.. landing a big left hook. Jones doesnt look hurt but he’s definitely respecting his opponent now.

Trinidad gets up at the count of 7… Jones is stalking him pouring it on… he’s completely letting it hang out…Tito is hanging on.. .blocking shots… It looks like jones is letting him off the hook (aka he’s tired..) Tito has his legs back under him now…. A huge missed opportunity for roy

Trinidad has recovered like a true veteran.. he’s patient.. collected…and back to his form in round 6. He’s not very quick but he’s throwing hard body shots… Roy’s hand speed is amazing. he isnt punching often.. but when he does he’s doing great damage… Trinidad isnt fast enough to do much with him. Roy is landing some flashy shots…. This was a hard round to score….

Not much happens during the first minute of the round… Roy comes alive with a nice combo which backs tito up… Tito comes back and starts banging away to the body… Roy covers up… Both men are throwing but not doing alot of damage… They’re taking turns saving energy…overall, Roy landed the more significant punches..He’s edging tito out.. Titos corner is telling him he has to step it up.

This round has been relatively slow compared to the previous… Tito is throwing HARD shots, but they arent doing much due to Jones’ defense… Roy is countering and generally landing whatever he wants. It seems as if Tito cant bully the bigger faster fighter…. .DOWN GOES TITO AGAIN… he didnt even see the punch coming.. Roy is so much quicker than him. It was a flash knockdown

This is the closest roy jones has looke to “the old roy jones” in a very long time. He looks 100% confident in the ring… This round has been tame. The guys are both still throwing but not landing anything particularly damaging…. Tito’s corner says “I think we’re down” between rounds.

Trinidad literally can’t find it within himself to get past roy’s defense and speed to land anything to hurt his opponent. That’s basically the story of the fight. This is just like the Trinidad vs. Wright fight…except Roy is so much more enjoyable watch than Winky. Roy is pretty much having his way with Trinidad… he isnt going to knock him out… but he’s landing at will.
Fight over…. Roy should win on the cards by a landslide.
Roy Wins by unanimous decision on the scorecards and calls out Joe Calzaghe. He says he’ll fight Calzaghe in Wales..

I don’t blame you guys, the promoters should have put this on HBO instead of PPV….
We don’t get a lot of big fights in chicago and there was a big fight with andrew golota vs. lamon brewster here at the united center. It wasn’t cheap and it was packed full of polish people rooting for golota and the fight literally lasted 53 seconds with golota getting knocked down 3 times and finally (after 53 seconds and the third knock down) the ref waving it off. I thought there was going to be a riot. Talk about pathetic…
