This whole ordeal with Tiger Woods, the Golf magazine, and the noose comments got me thinking… When does this man ever have anything to say that doesn’t sound like it’s written by a conservative PR Staffer?
I don’t want you guys to misunderstand me and assume I think Tiger Woods should become the next Muhammad Ali, and suddenly become an important social figure. He doesn’t need to be a Jim Brown, he doesn’t need to morph into a militant black man to appease me. But for the love of god, can this dude please grow a pair and form ONE original opinion about ANYTHING before he dies?
If the fate of every black person on earth somehow hinged on Tiger Woods saying anything that would make absolutely anyone uncomfortable, we’d all be dead tomorrow.
UPDATE: Not even 12 hours after this post, Jim Brown speaks out on Tiger Wood’s inactivity.

Earl Woods, Tiger’s father, was of mixed Black, Chinese, and Native American ancestry. Tiger’s mom is clearly Asian - so he’s more Asian than he is black if you want to get real technical about it. Leave him alone, let him do what he do, and that’s play golf and get money.

I have more Black genetic background than Tiger, and can show documentation of my slave ancestry. I simply don’t have the outward appearance of my black family. He does– therefor he will always have special attention given him and Black leaders attempting to exploit him for their own agendas.
I don’t hold any animosity toward him but I’m becoming tired of having to listen to his name being revered by so many people. He is without a doubt a phenom in athletics. We all realize this, but if Tiger had it in him to step up and not just forgive Kelly Tilghman for her unfortunate misspeak, but show the world that he isn’t so thin skinned that an unintended hurtful comment was worth heads rolling and good people being persecuted.
Step up Tiger and show some real stuff.

All identity politics is completely irrational. Because he looks black, Tiger Woods is apparently required to toe the line on all social, political and racial issues. I have Black, Jewish, American Indian and White ancestors. Because I look White, I get blamed for stuff that other people’s ancestors did to some of my ancestors. How can any person have a responsibility to act or feel a certain way, based on the actions of others, even if they are the direct descendants of those others? It is all absurd and Tiger Woods has no obligation to involve himself in it.
Sure he has an obligation. Like I said in the post, he doesn’t have to turn into Jim Brown and start throwing up the Black power fist. But when you’re in the position he’s in as a man of color in America, if you choose to ignore the plethora of important issues and causes to stand up for.. You’re wasting an awful lot of potential.

But sadly… Tiger Woods is NOTHING but a dude who can swing a golf club. And when you consider what he COULD be, it’s sad.
He has an obligation to do what? Sanctimoniously pile on with every other public figure who wants some TV face time whenever someone says something that you think is thoughtless or stupid? In fact, Tiger Woods has spoken out about those statements. He just hasn’t spoken out in accordance with your idea of what he ought to say about them. That is why you call him useless. Are all “Black” men who don’t think like you and say what you want them to say useless?
According to Wikipedia, Tiger Wood is “one-quarter Chinese, one quarter Thai, one quarter African American, one-eighth Native American, and one-eighth Dutch”. That makes him 5/8ths Asian with his White and Black genes tied for last place. Why is the information about his genetic ancestry even included in the article?
Because of all the bizarre scrutiny of his ancestry, he has had to come up with a term (Cablinasian) to describe the completely insignificant details of what part of the world his ancestors came from. Tiger Woods has a daughter that is 9/16ths White, 1/8th African American, 1/16th African American, and 1/8th Thai, and 1/8th. What part of her should he be speaking out in defense of? It appears that over half of his daughter is responsible for oppressing the other 7/16ths. Shame.
I broke the ancestry down in order to show how pointless and illogical all of this is. Why are you writing about Tiger Woods and not Yo Yo Ma or Jackie Chan? Doesn’t Yo Yo Ma have just as much of an obligation as a “person of color” to speak out whenever you think he should?

I’m a black woman and perhaps I’ve ended up reading too many of these types os discussions. It just seems like blacks always complaining about someone else not doing enough.
Stop worrying about Tiger Woods because like it or not, he’s made his millions….playing golf with white people. Black people haven’t done anything for Tiger Woods.
It’s the truth! He doesn’t owe us ANYTHING. And really blacks need to “drop” this “belief” that people owe them everything.
I’m proud of what Tiger has accomplished from working.l Arabs & Pakastani’s are running gas stations across the country, Koreans run nail and hair salons across the country, Hispanics run landscaping businesses across the country, Native Americans dominate the casino business (from what I’ve heard & read).
But what do blacks do? What do blacks run and own? Nothing. Those are some of the issues that need to be discussed by the black community; not Tiger Woods. Get up and do something to make a difference instead of putting down blacks who are actually successful.

Just read some earlier comments about Tiger Woods not being “Black enough” in the opinion of several posters. Too bad they miss the main reason Tiger is so important: like Jackie Robinson, who pierced the “Race Barrier” in baseball, Tiger has managed to obliterate the “Race Barrier” in Golf, previously the most hallowed ground for the world’s most dominant White men. No longer can these elitists say with smug certainty that Blacks are inferior mentally. That was always their justification for their delusionally lofty sense of superiority over the Black man. “Black may have stronger bodies, but they’re just not smart or disciplined enough to handle the rigors that we White men can.” Now, time and time again, under the most rigorous conditions, Tiger has proven that he is both tougher and stronger than anyone on the “White Man’s Tour.’” What is so sad to me as I read these posts is that Blacks have somehow come to believe that they must act Ghetto to be cool. Tiger Woods father, Earl Woods, was the first Black man to play baseball (and be a star!) in his Mid-West college conference. He went on to become a highly decorated Special Forces Officer in Viet Nam at a time when Blacks were almost unknown in that elite group. So Earl, like his son demonstrated toughness and brains, competing and cooperating with the majority. Instead of going around angry, with a false sense of entitlement because they are “victims”…which is not unlike the delusional rich “White Boys” in their private country clubs…Black men should figure out that if they are limiting their great potential by crying “poor me.” Just look at Obama. Whites really want to support good Blacks if they can just get over being stuck in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s and 1970’s. This “I’m a victim” attitude is the real reason why so many Blacks can’t seem to “make it.” Try not being so angry and threatening and start being accountable to yourself, your families and your job and things will change. Look at the Vietnamese “Boat People” and every other immigrant group that has come here with nothing, from the Irish who couldn;t live in certain parts of Boston, to the Italians and Germans who were discriminated agaist during both World Wars, to the East Indians and Pakistanis…all were despised by many already here and they struggled against the odds and won. Bill Cosby tires to talk to his fellow Black and they boo him off the stage. The ignorance in the Black community is what is holding you back. As Tiger has proven, you are just as smart and capable but you must lose your Ghetto Victim attitude if you want to “make it” or yo will be stuck in the Ghetto (in your mind…the ultimate prison or freedom…for ever!

Hmmm. I don’t know much about Tiger Woods, so there’s no way I’m going to judge him. He never denied being black; he just didn’t want to be known as only black because he’s not only black he’s asian, native american, dutch, etc. People should give him a break and stay out of his business. Life’s too short to be obsessing over someone else’s life.
