I have to admit, when I heard the news of two athletes on video cockfighting I thought Tom Brady and Tedy Bruschi had a disagreement. It turns out it was just Pedro Martinez and Juan Marichal. Apparently these two were in the Dominican Republic having a little bit of fun and someone spoiled the party by videotaping it. PETA was predictably not happy by this, and crafted a letter to Pedro Martinez. Check this out..

You may have grown up watching the gallos, but take a step back and realize what actually goes on inside a cockfighting ring. Roosters are given weapons and drugs in this cruel lethal bloodsport. They are given steroids and amphetamines to make them stronger, more aggressive killing machines

What in the HELL, who ghostwrote this letter, Wes Craven? This is a cockfight, not Mortal Kombat. The last time I checked, there were just two roosters pecking the hell out of each other. I didn’t see a six foot tall Foghorn Leghorn with a battle axe. But on the real, is this any worse than what American farmers do to poultry every single day so we can have cheap buckets of KFC?

I’ve seen videos and reading material from crazy hippies at UC Berkeley, and the stuff that our own companies do to these birds are just as bad. So for me or any of us to get all hyped up over Pedro enjoying his offseason is completely bogus.
