Preview: Kelly Pavlik vs. Jermain Taylor II – The Rematch
February 13th, 2008 . by Dell
If you didn’t catch Pavlik & Taylor’s first fight in October, you missed the best match up in 2007. Jermain Taylor stormed out of the gates and nearly knocked Pavlik out in round 2, but winded himself and let his opponent off the hook. Pavlik slowly mounted a comeback and eventually stunned the world by knocking the undefeated Taylor out in round 7.
Just four and a half months later, the guys are set to face off this Saturday in a highly anticipated rematch. Sportaphile will be live blogging the matchup, so if you don’t plan on ordering the PPV, stop by and check out our round by round updates.
Despite Taylor being knocked out in the first matchup, I’m predicting he will come out on top in the rematch. I don’t believe Taylor was outskilled or outwilled in the first fight, but he WAS unprepared. He expected to walk out there and bullrush his opponent until Pavlik wilted, the only problem was he got tired.
Jermain Taylor was complacent, lazy, and overconfident, Pavlik ended all of that by putting him on his ass. So with this second battle, I expect a *focused* Jermain Taylor to come to the ring and take care of business. I’ll go out on a limb and say Taylor by KO in round 8.
Here’s a video of the highlights in the first fight in case you missed it. (it’s worth a view…trust me).
