Once You Go Black…. [The Jacksonville Jaguars]

So, I noticed that the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Cleo Lemon to be their backup quarterback today. This news may not have meant much to anybody but it sparked a question for me. I literally could not remember the last time I saw a white person as the Jags quarterback. Surely there had to be a white dude on the bench somewhere right?
In the days of Vince Young’s, Mike Vick’s, and Daunte Culpepper’s, it’s no longer a big deal to see black guys leading a team, however it’s a stark contrast to my grade school days when it wasn’t so common. When we played Tecmo Bowl as kids, when you wanted to see a black quarterback , you could use the Washington Redskins or whatever team Warren Moon was playing for at the time, and that was about it.
So we know Byron Leftwich served as the Jacksonville Jags starter from 2004 to 2006. With David Garrard serving as the backup from 2002 to 2006, he took over the starting role in 2007. Quinn Gray joined the team as the third string QB in 2005 and now serves as the primary backup. Even their practice squad quarterback Lester Ricard is black.
Jacksonville probably made Garrard wear this pimp hat during the 2007 season as a statement of their commitment to the brotherhood.. Thus sending a clear message to Todd Bouman that his days were numbered.
If you wanted to find a white man as starting QB on the Jags, you’d have to travel 5 years to the 2003 team, Mark Brunell was behind center taking the snaps. Todd Bouman stopped by for 1 season in ‘07 and Paul Pinegar stopped by for 1 season in ‘05 but they’re both gone now.
Was Mark Brunell so bad that the Jacksonville coaching staff swore off white men forever? Was he so bad that the entire race of Caucasian quarterbacks have no chance? This is like your girlfriend breaking up with you and turning lesbian. Has Mark developed a complex because of this incident? Has he undergone any therapy?
Are we going to need the reverse Rooney Rule in Jacksonville soon? The organization signed Bouman to shake the authorities off of their scent…. we’re onto you buddy…. we’re onto you.

Jack Del Rio didn’t want to hear shit from the media and hick fans calling for the backup every 5 minutes so he just squashed that by having a full Black QB squad. Its genius. Think about it, the media never starts up a QB controversey with J-ville. They never say a freaking word.
It’s never a full fledged QB controversy but the media did have a lil Garrard or Leftwich thing for a minute.
Leftwich is a good quarterback except for when he’s injured, which is about 90% of the time.

I have discussed the Jags choice in qb’s with GM James Harris, who also is on of the pioneering black qbs. And he said they just look for the best qb for their system. The Jags have also had black qb’s Lester Ricard and Roderick Robinson on their roster too.
