Who’s Worse Off? Aaron Rodgers Or Alex Smith?
March 8th, 2008 . by Dell
Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith were both taken in the 1st round of the 2005 NFL draft. For the last three years each man has traveled a very different journey, yet they find themselves in the exact same place…. Knee deep in sh-t.
Alex Smith took the fast track, leading his team for half of his rookie season for the San Francisco 49ers and “learning on the job”. Alex took his lumps hoping that his on-field experience would give him the tools he needed to be a great team leader. Things haven’t quite worked out that way, the 49ers suck almost as bad as they did in 2005 and Smith hasn’t shown that much improvement in his game. The Niners are now considering giving the starting job to backup Shaun Hill.
Aaron Rodgers was taken by the Green Bay Packers and has spent the last 3 years sitting on the bench “learning” from Brett Favre. Favre is the all-knowing white Jesus of the NFL and grudgingly bequeathed his priceless knowledge on Aaron to use when he retired. Rodgers is now faced with the monumental task of living up to the expectations of Packer fans, and isn’t even guaranteed a permanent starting job.
Who do you think is worse off? Who’s more likely to be ran out of town by the fans?

Now Chuck, why play the race card? Us Wisconsinites don’t ever refer to the great Brett Favre as “White Jesus”. We simply call him Jesus. Just plain ‘ol regular Jesus.
Speaking as Sportaphile’s almost official Packer’s insider, this is Rodgers’ job to lose. However, one must keep in mind that Mr. Rodgers (no relation to the late, great, Fred Rogers) is more fragile than Joe Theisman’s leg. Regardless, Rodgers is the guy now, and the Green Bay faithful will treat him as such.
Now for a truly serious question. For as long as I can remember, I’ve used the Green Bay Packers, quarterbacked by Brett Favre, in every football video game that has come out since Tecmo Bowl! What do I do now? Where do I go now? Am I going to be lobbing up stay puft marshmallows with Rodgers, instead of the heat-seeking missiles that I am accustomed to from Favre? I’m dreading the Madden roster update that takes Jesu– err Favre away.
Help!
LOL my bad. From now on I will refer to Favre as simply “Jesus” instead of white jesus.
I think Packer fans are just WAITING for Rodgers to make the smallest mistake, and they’re gonna run him out of the state.
Niner fans are too laid back to actually inflict any emotional damage on Smith, but he’ll be benched.
You think Alex Smith just might be the next Ryan Leaf?
No, I actually think Alex Smith is a good player. People seem to overlook the fact that the niners have changed offensive coordinators 3 years in a row now. Alex hasn’t had a stable environment to flourish because every year his offense changes.
Nobody really acknowledges that when they criticize him. I didn’t even acknowledge that in my post (slipped my mind).
Rodgers without a doubt has it tougher. He has to live up to the myth of Farve…when even Farve himself didn’t live up to it.
Rodgers hands down! He’s the Brian Griese of GB. Where’s Griese now? Exactly?!
No one can follow a legend unless they have a HOF WR to throw to, ie Young.
Miranda, you speaketh blasphemy.. Farve?!
Nobody expects Rodgers to fill Favre’s shoes. The expectations for Rodgers are so low that he could wear a blindfold during games and it would still be ok. Does anybody really expect the Packers to return to the NFC championship game next season? Exactly! The bar isn’t set too high in GB, because there is no bar. Alex Smith has it tougher, people are expecting something from him.. anything, and that is not the case with A.Rodg. We just want somebody to show up in a GB uniform and line up under center every week.
