BET’s ‘Iron Ring’ .. When Hip Hop Meets MMA

March 9th, 2008 . by Dell

Update: 3/18/08 – You can catch my review of BET’s Iron Ring HERE

BET Iron Ring MMAI’m not so sure about this one….

From what I understand, if you take “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show, take out the white people, and throw in rappers.. you get ‘Iron Ring’. There will be up and coming MMA fighters trying to make a name for themselves with the aid of hip hop artists like Ludacris, Nelly, Juelz Santana and Lil Jon.

“From a steel ring above the arena, the celebrity “owners” will interact with their gladiators between rounds – and sometimes right in the middle of them. Each week, as top competitors enter the battle zone to face off, using the combined techniques of jiu-jitsu, judo, karate, boxing, kickboxing and wrestling, viewers will witness true-to-life, bone-crushing, face-smashing sports entertainment unlike anything ever seen before. Only the strong will survive!”

………Oh god.

If you’re in the ring getting the snot kicked out of you, what could Lil Jon POSSIBLY say to help you any? Seriously. The only celebrity “owner” that has any fighting experience is Floyd Mayweather, so I could understand him being a part of this program, but Juelz Santana?… no. Juelz isn’t even that good at his own profession, how is he going to help you with your own?

I have little doubt that this show will be funny and entertaining, but as always… we aren’t laughing with you BET… we’re laughing AT you.

BET’s Iron Ring premieres Tuesday, March 18, at 11 p.m. (ET/PT)

Typical clown show by a typical clown network. BET and MTV have the gutter market cornered.

If they can somehow get Luda in the ring against Lil Jon I’d clear enough room on my DVR.

If they made some of these so called hip hop stars get in the ring, Stank-0 would be all over this show.

I think it would be a combo of something amazing and something stupid. I am a martial artist as well so I enjoy both Hip-Hop and MMA. Joining the two 2gether is a bit mind boggling. I guess that is y I don’t get the big bucks. I have to admit I will be watching it.
