Indiana Pacers Attendance Dives To NBA Worst

March 11th, 2008 . by Dell

What’s big, empty, and located in downtown Indianapolis?

If you answered Peyton Manning’s forehead, you’d be right, but thats not the answer I’m looking for. Things have gotten so bad for the Pacers that empty seats now outnumber the fans at the Conseco Fieldhouse on some nights.

“The team’s average attendance of 12,183 ranks last in the NBA and represents its worst norm since the 1990-91 season. Those figures include unused tickets. Actual attendance sometimes fails to reach 10,000, and has dipped below 8,000.

According to an unscientific online poll conducted by The Star after the most recent incident involving Shawne Williams, 71 percent of 16,000 respondents said they would not accept free tickets to a Pacers game”.

They are currently trying to run promotions in hopes to lure more fans into the arena, but traditional approaches like “Free hats and T-shirts” just aren’t doing to cut it. Launching campaigns that better reflect the residents of Indianapolis might achieve better results.

- Bring your own goat night.
- Have the Pacers trade in their traditional NBA jerseys for Overalls with shorts.
- Surround the court with chicken wire
- Larry Bird ‘Unleashed’ Calendars for the gals.

I’m part of the group that won’t go to the games… I know they’ve also been selling tickets to the games for $4. Still I won’t go. I haven’t been to a Pacers game since Reggie Miller played. They have that new fieldhouse and all you ever hear about is shootouts, rapes, drugs… other miscellaneous bs. They reflect badly on the city. I think they should get rid of the entire team and start over.

Yeah, but what if they started selling pigfeet at the concession stands?

How do you feel about the Larry Bird calendars/

How do you know they don’t have a jar of pickled pig feet sitting on the counter? lol
For all I know they might sell ‘em.

I dont think i could stand to see Larry Bird’s pasty ass in swim trunks. They’d lose even more viewers.

We, those of you who are true Indiana Pacers fans, need to stop daydreaming about Larry Bird’s butt cheeks and yanging on pickled pig feet and get behind this team by ACTUALLY SHOWING UP in difficult times. Larry Bird IS, AND ALWAYS WAS, a winner and he WILL mold this team into shape. The pieces are there; they’re young and able, along side of the fact that, the bums have been kicked off of this team. From the likes of Ron Artest, J. O’Neal, J. Tinsley, S. Williams, S. Jackson; the team of thugs who consider themselves “worthy of suiting up to play in the NBA”, they are outta here. Jim O’Brien has not been the answer for this team. We need a coach that’s willing to challenge these young players to get them involved in more than just going in, making a decent play or shot, then sitting them down with a cup of Gatorade for a reward. These kids are young, in shape and capable of playing for 30-38 minutes a game. Mr. O’Brien acts as if he’s coaching 5th or 6th grader’s—he’s trying to make sure everybody’s kid gets a chance to play in every game, so nobody’s parent or kid isn’t upset they didn’t get a chance to play. I’ve got a better idea Coach O’Brien; LIGHT A FIRE UNDER THESE PLAYER’S *SS, challenge them, let them ‘gel’; p#ss in their Wheaties. Stop taking players out when they get on a roll. LET them play. Next, make up your mind about a starting lineup; this team has had 20, count ‘em, 20 DIFFERENT starting lineups. There haven’t been enough player’s with injuries to blame it on injuries, sir. With all due respect, you’ve had 3 years to BETTER this team, and all that’s been accomplished is…..well,…….nothing. Perhaps high school basketball might be a more successful venue given your mediocre resume’, seriously, with all due respect.
This team needs DIRECTION and solid lineup. T.J. Ford is NOT the answer for a starting point guard (or shooting guard); he loves to dribble that ball and I’ve never seen a player who misses so many point blank layups. And why does he feel that he has to jump in the air before he throws a pass? HIBBERT has been a plus; he needs a good big man coach’s guidance & help with him being foul-prone, passing and better at shooting free throws. Foster’s a team player; he won’t have a problem coming off the bench to back up Roy. Who knows about Hansboro? I hope he comes up with a better excuse than an ear infection. (Both of my son’s had that problem,,,,,but it got much better after the doctor told us to take the bottle from him when he slept. (You may want to suggest that, I don’t know.) Danny Granger has more potential than half of the voted in All-Star team voted in this year. At times, he reflects leadership qualities and at other times he appears, understandably, frustrated. I wonder what Reggie Miller thinks about coaching the Pacer’s? Just a thought. Brandon Rush needs to work on a shorter range jumpshot; he lives at the three-point line. Besides DGranger & JFoster, this entire team needs to man up on defense. O’Brien needs to initiate a sharper practice honed in on crisper ball movement, sharper passing and the proper way to run a fast break (spread the floor guys, spacing between yourselves is key to making a fast break work; IT’S NOT A SECRET)
Thanks to teams like Phoenix, they’ve proved you can’t get out of the 2nd round without playing solid D. Man up, guys. The world championship’s and years are passing us by.
