Anderson Silva MMA WeeklySince joining the UFC and dominating his competition, middleweight champion Anderson Silva has apparently grown bored with winning. During a recent interview, his manager mentioned that Anderson would love to fight boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. This will undoubtedly put gas on the “MMA vs. Boxing” battle that you can find on every fighting website in the world.

Anderson really would love to fight Roy Jones, Jr. in a boxing match,” says his manager, Ed Soares, confirming recent speculation. “It’s not just talk, we really would like to put that fight together.”

“We respect Jones’ boxing ability and think he’s one of the best,” said Soares, “but we’re tired of different boxers saying that MMA fighters aren’t technical. Anderson would love to fight Roy Jones in a boxing match under boxing rules to prove that MMA fighters are technical, too.”

I recognize this when I see it. This is the moment in a dominant champion’s career when he’s so used to winning, he creates new silly feats to keep himself entertained. Michael Jordan started playing baseball. Shaquille O’neal became a sheriff. Roy Jones started fighting men who were 50 pounds heavier than he was. Now Anderson Silva wants to fight one of the most accomplished champions in boxing history.

Although Roy Jones is old and past his prime, I think he’d mop the floor with Anderson Silva in a boxing match, no contest. Just like I said about Floyd Mayweather a month or so ago, you can’t go into someone else’s profession and expect to dominate. Floyd would get killed in the octagon, and Silva would be embarrassed in a boxing ring.
