Oscar De La Hoya will be taking on Steve Forbes of The Contender fame just 58 minutes from now (7pm PST/10pm EST) in Los Angeles.
If a clear headed and focused De La Hoya shows up tonight, he should have little to no problem cruising to a win. However, many folks are wondering if De La Hoya is looking past Steve Forbes to focus on a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. This is the biggest moment in Forbes’ life, this is his shot to become a house hold name, this is his shot to be remembered forever, this is his shot to shock the world, so it’s a no brainer that Forbes is ready to seize the opportunity should Oscar give it to him.
We’ll be doing round by round updates, so refresh your browser every 4-5 minutes for new info… As stated before, the broadcast starts at 7pm so the men should be in-ring about 7:15
———
Update: 7:07pm - The broadcast has started, but the fighters have not yet entered the ring. The announcers are still hyping up the match.
Update: 7:17pm - They’re doing A LOT of talking, showing short vignettes with Oscar’s legacy and interviews.
Update: 7:23pm - they’re showing the obligatory “stars in the crowd” shot. Stallone, Toby McGuire, Bernard Hopkins, Brook Shields etc etc…
Update: 7:25pm - Michael Buffer just stepped into the ring, they’re going to do 2 national anthems, then fighter introductions. Hopefully the fight should be underway in 10-12 minutes.
Update: 7:34 - Steve Forbes is headed to the ring now (theres a very long walkway due to the fight being held in a soccer stadium).
Update: 7:39pm - Oscar is now inside the ring… Buffer is starting the introductions.
7:43pm The fight has started!
==========================
ROUND 1 - Oscar comes out asa the busier fighter initially, but forbes starts firing back around the 30 second mark. The fight isnt action packed, but it appears like the boring “feeling out period” won’t happen with these two. There is no hesitation to mix it up and throw punches so far. Oscar landed a few stiff jabs during the round, and Forbes landed one good right hand near the end… Very close round but Oscar takes it.
Oscar takes the round.
ROUND 2 - steve forbes corner told him they wanted to try and “steal the rounds” near the end between rounds… Oscar comes out for round 2 firing off hard shots. It looks like he wants to make forbes respect him… forbes recovers from the Oscar’s barrage to land a good shot of his own. De La Hoya looks much more comfortable and wants to bide his time. Oscar is throwing very hard shots, but most are being blocked by Forbes… Steve isn’t throwing a lot of punches back… he **may** be trying to wait until later in the fight when Oscar gets tired. But until then… Oscar is landing more punches…
Oscars round…
ROUND 3 - Although he hasnt landed anything particularly damaging, Oscar looks very crisp and confident. Forbes is extremely patient, he’s almost deceptive in how he’s fighting… Nobody landed any great shots, but neither man is shy about firing…. It was a really close round… Hard to call who got this one..
even round
ROUND 4 - Harold Lederman has Oscar winning all rounds, in case you were skeptical about my “even” in round 3. Forbes comes out busier than hes been in all 3 rounds… DLH isnt bleeding, but his face is red and theres very minor swelling… I wouldnt say forbes is winning, but its becoming clear that this won’t be a cakewalk for Oscar…steve is taking all his shots and coming back for more. Oscar’s jabs are beginning to sneak through a little, but they aren’t as stiff as they were in rounds 1 and 2.
Oscar’s round
ROUND 5 -Both men seem a little more cautious in the first 30 seconds as they have been in the past. forbes is flicking the jab and trying to find his range. Forbes hasnt landed any power shots, but he’s won the first half of the round based on his activity alone. Oscar is trying to find an opening…Oscar threw a few power shots that were blocked, Forbes waved his hands to tell oscar to come throw a few more…
Steve Forbes wins his first round
ROUND 6 - Lederman gave round 5 to Forbes also in case you were wondering… The men come out swinging and trade left hooks. Oscar’s power doesnt seem to bother steve as of yet and vice versa. Oscar finally gets through to Forbes with about 1:20 minutes left… steve forbes now has a cut above one of his eyes.. so DLH definitely got through with his last flurry. This is one of the few fights ive ever seen where i dont remember the guys clenching each other.
Great round for Oscar….
ROUND 7 - The ref confirmed the punch above Forbes right eye came from a punch… At this pace the fight is definitely going to a decision. Neither man appears to have the power to knock out the other. DLH is the busier fighter and he’s taking aim at the blood above Forbes’ eye. Oscar is throwing combinations near the close of the round and he’s beginning to land. Forbes doesnt look hurt, but he’s clearly being outboxed and he’s not throwing as much as he was earlier.
Easy round for oscar.
ROUND 8 - Oscar pretty much jabbed and jabbed the entire first minute of the round, with varying success. Steve really isn’t throwing many punches at all, it looks like the last 3 round sor so have made him respect Oscar’s skill. This was probably the boringest round of the entire fight…. Not much of anything happened aside from Oscar jabbing his head off.
Oscar’s round.
ROUND 9 - Jeff Mayweather is telling Forbes to pick it up and throw combinations because he thinks Oscar is tired. Through the first half of the round, Forbes tried to get in closer and put together some punches but Oscar easily backed him off. DLH landed a few great left hooks near mid-round and backed Forbes down…. jeff mayweather is now telling his fighter that he needs to pick it up in the corner (understatement of the year), forbes is CLEARLY losing although he hasn’t been hurt.
ROUND 10 - Just to give you guys and idea about how confident everyone is Oscar will cruise to a decision, Jim Lampley and Harold Lederman are now making small talk about Nicole Scherzinger’s national anthem. The guys are mixing it up in the ring but each guy backs off without taking too much punishment….. Forbes is a tough guy but he just doesn’t have the tools to win.
oscars round
ROUND 11 - The fight is now taking on the quality of a sparring match. … I’m getting the feeling that Oscar is comfortable taking his decision and going home, and Forbes is resigning to the fact that he’s not going to stop this guy. I hope they prove me wrong but at this point it doesn’t look like anything terribly exciting is going to happen.
Oscar’s round
ROUND 12 - The guys come out energized and mix it up a little, but like in previous rounds nobody really takes any damage. At one point Steve forbes lifted up his arms in celebration after an exchange…. For what??? YOU’RE LOSING STEVE!!!
Oscar’s round….
expect a wide margin on the scorecards…..
119-109
119-109
120-108
Oscar Wins. Did he look impressive?…. Kinda… but i expected him to at least HURT steve, and he never did.

Thanks for publishing the updates to the fight…I cannot watch it so I’m relying on whats on this blog…Cheers!!!
