“and you can live through anything if Magic made it…”

Magic Johnson, his wife Cookie, and Spike Lee are teaming up for a series of PSAs on HIV/AIDS awareness. The number of new cases in the black community are getting ridiculously high, so I applaud steps like this to educate the youngsters.

“I think a lot of times we just don’t have the information,” Johnson tells PEOPLE. “Especially young people. They think they’re invincible and nothing can happen to them but the numbers are showing that those getting HIV are real young now. We have to now do something about that.”

What’s The Campaign All About?

Blacks make up 13% of the US population but account for 50% of new HIV cases in 2004. Abbott has partnered with The Magic Johnson Foundation to establish The Campaign to End Black HIV/AIDS. Together we’re committed to fighting HIV/AIDS by providing communities with information and resources for prevention and testing, educational materials to share with family and friends and a way to join together to make a difference.
