Why Is NBC Tape Delaying The Beijing Olympics To The West Coast??

I realize that China is on the other side of the planet, and this inevitably causes scheduling conflicts with the U.S.A. However, the morning events in China happen to line up perfectly to air during prime time hours in the United States.
At this very moment, the east coast is watching Michael Phelps compete for his first medal live with no tape delay, and the west coast will have to wait 3 hours to see what happens. Do you realize how hard it is to ignore the results of a major sporting event in the age of the internet? Why is NBC not airing these events live across the entire country?
Why must I be forced to go to NBCOlympics.com and navigate through their non-user-friendly setup to watch sub-par streaming video on my computer?
