Chuck & Risse’s NFL Week 4 Predictions

September 25th, 2008 . by Dell

Carolina vs Atlanta

Chuck: Although Michael Turner is looking great this season, I’m still not sold on Matt Ryan. Carolina has home field advantage and a strong defensive line that can give the rookie trouble, therefore I’m rolling with the Panthers.

Risse: Michael Turner is out there giving defenses the business. Carolina will definitely be strong at home coming off a loss last week, so I see them coming out pretty motivated. Panthers at home.

Tennessee vs Minnesota

Chuck: The Titans are boasting the best defense in the NFL through the first three weeks, if you don’t know the name Cortland Finnegan… you will by the end of the season. Gus Frerotte isn’t exactly a top flight QB so I’m expecting the Titans to give him hell. Albert Haynesworth and the gang are gonna put 8 in the box to deal with Purple Jesus. Titans win.

Risse: The Titans defense is definitely punishing opponents and this week should be no different. Frerotte is no longer worth the energy it takes to diss him. I am interested in the running back battle: Chris Johnson vs. A.P. Who will have a bigger impact? The Titans will be 4-0 when its over.

Jacksonville vs Houston

Chuck: I’ve already told you guys what I think of Matt Schuab, and the Jags are making up for lost time since they dropped games 1 and 2. Jacksonville wins.

Risse: This is the fourth of five early-season match ups that are pure hell on the Texans 2008 schedule. The Jags are feeling themselves after serving Indy last week so I think Jacksonville wins at home. (But this is a rare occasion where I WANT to be wrong. Go Texans!)

Denver vs Kansas City

Chuck: Kansas City is downright pathetic, I honestly can’t think of any scenario in which this team can conceivably beat the Broncos. Jay Culter is going to look like Joe F’in Montana on Sunday… watch.

Risse: I think Jay Cutler will put up ridiculous numbers and will only have to play three quarters. Shanahan could then put in the third-string water boy and still hold onto the victory against KC. Broncos, too easily.

New Orleans vs San Francisco

Chuck: This is my Upset Special for the week, because logic tells me the Saints will win this easily at home. But I’m very optimistic about the 49ers offense and I have a little hometown bias. Frank Gore saves the day… Niners win.

Risse: This is actually a hard pick. The Saints offensive attack keeps taking hits but the 49ers aren’t exactly defensive geniuses. Gore will kill the Saints but something tells me it won’t be enough. New Orleans wins in the Superdome.

New York (NYJ) vs Arizona

Chuck: I don’t like how the Jets looked Monday night. The offense was terribly out of sync and the Chargers were able to move the ball at will. Given how potent Arizona’s offense is this season, I’m giving the nod to Boldin, Warner, and Fitz.

Risse: I am not shy in admitting that I really don’t like Brett Favre. Maybe that is a recent development in my life, but it exists nonetheless. So with that, I hope the Cardinals fire away. Arizona wins.

Cincinnati vs Cleveland

Chuck: Ahh.. .the battle of the shitty Ohio teams. Cleveland looks like a team full of rookies who keep tripping over their own feet. On the other hand, Cincy showed signs of life last week against the defending champs so hopefully they’ll gain their first victory. Ocho Cinco is going to have his coming out party for the 2008 season. Bengals.

Risse: I couldn’t have described this game any better. I do think Ocho Cinco will have a big game. If not against the Browns, then versus who I ask? Cincy gets the “W.”

Tampa Bay vs Green Bay

Chuck: Although Brian Greise threw for like… 8 thousand yards last week… I can’t see him pulling off the feat twice, especially against a strong Green Bay team. Al Harris may be gone…. but they don’t need him in this case.

Risse: I think Griese will still be icing his shoulder this week after last week’s outlandish numbers. Or maybe the Packers will be doing all the ice treatments instead. Either way, Bucs go down. Green Bay takes it.

San Diego vs Oakland

Chuck: I want to root for Oakland…. but that’s not happening… San Diego looked too good last week. This game will be closer than you think though, I’m predicting a 24-17 victory for SD.

Risse: Close? Are you joshing? Chargers will electrocute the Raiders in the Black Hole. And Sproles better keep rolling for my fantasy team because mama needs a new pair of shoes!

Buffalo vs St. Louis

Chuck: Oh god… do I even have to say anything? Buffalo is going to blow them out of the water.

Risse: Buffalo….next!

Dallas vs Washington

Chuck: Dallas wins in a very close contested matchup, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cowboys lost the way Tony Romo is playing…. but I just can’t pick against them.

Risse: This is the game where we find out what the ‘Skins are really made of. If this game were in D.C., I would actually pick Washington to win. But it ain’t so I’m rolling with those Cowboys.

Chicago vs Philadelphia

Chuck: Both of these teams are banged up, but Philly is just too good right now. Devin Hester having tender ribs isn’t helping Chicago’s case any…. The Eagles take it.

Risse: I think Donovan McNabb will put on a show that will make Bears’ fans yearn for him to come home to his native Windy City and resolve their squad’s QB issues. And I need big yards from Baskett because I just picked him up in fantasy. Philly wins.

Pittsburgh vs Baltimore

Chuck: Pittsburgh did NOT look good last week, Big Ben is hurting and Willie Parker will miss the game as well. However, I picked Baltimore to have the worst record this year, so in a move of incredible stubborness… I’m picking the Ravens to lose…. Logic Schmogic.

Risse: I love it when you are illogical, Chuck. I think Ray and the Ravens will eat Ben the Berger for dinner on Monday Night Football. Then comes in Byron Leftwich for desert. Baltimore baby!
