2008-09 NFL Pro Bowl Voting Is Now Open!
October 27th, 2008 . by Dell
We’re only a week away from the most important election of our generation, but you can practice your fingers a little bit with this drastically less important event.
It’s about that time folks, the 2008 season is halfway over and NFL.com is now accepting ballots for this year’s Pro Bowl squad. Click Here to head over and cast your ballot. I know nobody actually watches the game, so I have more fun picking players than anything else associated with this game.
Here’s who I support to make the squad.
AFC Quarterbacks:
Brett Favre - For this guy to come in 4 weeks before the start of the season and perform the way he has with a new team… It’s pretty amazing.
Jay Cutler - Their defense may be absolute crap, but Cutler and Marshall have been downright scary this year.
Chad Pennington – This is my dark horse pick to make the squad, Chad’s been completing around 70% of his passes thusfar and has completely revitalized his career. Parcells sure knows how to work old quarterbacks doesn’t he?
NFC Quarterbacks
Drew Brees - This is a no brainer, he’s on pace to throw over 5,000 yards
Jason Campbell - 8 games into the season and he has 1 fumble, and no interceptions. Homie’s puttin in work.
Kurt Warner - The Cardinals offense could be lining up against Jesus and 10 apostles, and Kurt Warner would still have 368 yards, 5 TDs, 2 INTs, and 1 fumble…. He makes up for every mistake he commits.
AFC Running Backs
Slim pickins! … Of the top 20 rushers in the NFL…..only SIX of them are from the AFC.
Ronnie Brown – Mr. Brown has 7 rushing touchdowns this season (plus a passing TD). He’s been the central figure behind the wildcat offense.. and let’s not forget he tore his ACL last season.
Lendale White – Lendale is leading the AFC with 8 rushing TDs… but to be honest I want him in the pro bowl just because he ripped off an 80 yard TD against the Chiefs. That was epic.
Ladainian Tomlinson - He leads the AFC in both attemps, and rushing yards… all with a bum foot.
NFC Running Backs –
Clinton Portis - Leads the league with over 900 yards rushing. Clinton has been so good, that he’s almost 300 yards ahead of the nearest running back. These aren’t even cheap yards, his longest run of the year is 31 yards. He’s earning these stats the hard way.
Adrian Peterson – Only second to Portis in yards… He may not be making the highlight reels, but he’s definitely putting in work.
Marion Barber – He’s not at the top of the rushing list, but when you factor in his work in the passing game… Marion got it.
AFC Wide Receivers
Andre Johnson – He’s been a monster this year…leading the league in receptions and yards. It’s a little worrisome that he only has 2 TDs… but not enough for him to miss the pro bowl.
Brandon Marshall - He missed the ffirst game of the season and is still outperforming most wideouts in the league..
Lee Evans - This guy isn’t even in the top 15 as far as receptions go, but he’s 2nd in the league in reception yards. That means every time he catches the ball IT COUNTS. He has 10 receptions that are 20 yards or longer, and 87% of the time he catches a pass.. its a first down. (not a made up stat).
NFC Wide Receivers
Larry Fitzgerald – Do I even need to put anything here? He and Kurt are killin it.
Greg Jennings - I doubt he makes the pro bowl squad because he isn’t a big name, but he’s putting in major work.
Anquan Boldin -Although he’s missed two games this season due to injury, he’s STILL leading the league in TD receptions.
AFC Tight Ends -
Antonio Gates - No matter how many receivers San Diego gets, he’ll always be the go to guy.
Owen Daniels - A little known player on a crappy team, it’s amazing that his stats are so good considering Andre Johnson catches everything in sight.
NFC Tight Ends -
Jason Witten - They cant seem to get Terrell Owens the ball this year, so Witten is the focus of the passing game along with Marion Barber…. Witten is also leading the league in receptions.
Chris Cooley - He and Witten are the class of Tight Ends in the NFL.
My defensive recommendations are coming up next!
