It’s Safe To Say Anquan Boldin Won’t Be In Arizona Next Season

January 19th, 2009 . by Dell

anquan-boldinMost of you may remember Anquan Boldin asking to be traded *before* the current season started, he wants (and deserves) a huge contract like his good pal Larry Fitzgerald received in the offseason. Anquan claims that the powers that be in the Cardinals front office repeatedly lied to him concerning a new contract, he was so angry that he cut off negotiations and refuses to even entertain doing business with his team…. he wanted OUT.

However, much to everyone’s surprise…. the Cardinals had a great season, made the playoffs, and are now on the way to the Super Bowl. Anquan’s been quiet all season so it seemed as if he may be willing to bury the hatchet because things are going well.

Until last night…

In the game, Boldin got into a heated argument with offensive coordinator Todd Haley. After the game, instead of celebrating with his team, Boldin abruptly left the field, then abruptly left the locker room.

Quarterback Kurt Warner also got into an argument with Haley during the game but you didn’t see Warner acting like a petulant child afterwards. He celebrated with his teammates and enjoyed the moment.

I have to say in nearly 20 years of doing this, I’ve never seen a player more concerned about his arguing with a coach over making a Super Bowl.”

You really have to think about how truly odd this is, how angry does a player have to be to not celebrate going to the Super Bowl? Is his relationship with management so strained that he’d rather leave his team mates behind and go home immediately after a game of this magnitude?

Clearly, there are some irreconcilable differences… which raises the likelihood of Anquan being offloaded in the next 4-5 months. The emergence of Steve Breaston into a solid option, as well as the meteoric rise of Larry Fitzgerald as an elite receiver make it easier for Arizona to part with Boldin.
