“All great leaders since Moses have known that a feared enemy must be crushed completely. (Sometimes they have learned this the hard way.) If one ember is left alight, no matter how dimly it smolders, a fire will eventually break out. More is lost through stopping halfway than through total annihilation: The enemy will recover, and will seek revenge. Crush him, not only in body but in spirit.” – Robert Greene

Various fans and sportswriters across the country are letting out a collective whine in reaction to Michael Jordan’s Hall Of Fame speech from last night. Instead of taking the typical route which consists of reading a bland speech word for word and giving a step-by-step story of your career, Jordan spent 20 minutes explaining things that lit his competitive fire, things that motivated him, things that made him relentless in his pursuit of being the best at what he did.

Of course, Jordan didn’t take the ‘aww shucks, you guys really like me?’ road, he took shots at everyone he believed crossed him in the last 25 years. There are many who see this as displaying a lack of tact or class, but I prefer to see this as Michael Jordan being Michael Jordan. This is the same man who would absolutely rip the hearts out of his competitors chests in the 4th quarter when he had the big stage. His body may have aged, but one of the biggest infernos of competitive fire we’ve ever seen is still burning inside his heart and he made sure he knew it.

If you want to see Michael Jordan lie and tell everyone what they want to hear, go watch a Gatorade commercial. If you want to hear Michael Jordan be who he is…. listen to his Hall Of Fame speech. Could we really ask for anything better than what he gave us?

Here’s a video of the speech, courtesy of 3030FM.

The 83 billion year career of Dikembe Mutombo came to an end tonight in Portland when he suffered a bad injury while battling in the post with Greg Oden. Deke was carried out on a stretcher and received a proper sendoff from all players on the court as well as the Portland crowd. After the game’s conclusion, Mutombo confirmed that he’s moving on from the NBA:

“I’m going to need surgery. For me, basketball is over. I cried so much about it when I was laying on the floor.”

”I need to be positive and thank God for the wonderful 18 years I had,” he said.

Aside from sounding like the cookie monster, I’ll always remember Mutombo for the series where his #6 seed Nuggets upset the #1 seed SuperSonics in the first round of the 1994 NBA playoffs. I’m glad I got to see Deke play about a week and a half ago when Houston came to Golden State.

This weilded three funny results which were:

A. Varejao didn’t respond to being elbowed in the sack whatsoever, which either means he’s the strongest man on earth or has miniature testicles (pause…)
B. Instead of retaliating and smacking the shit out of Ray Allen (which is what 90% of the population would have done), he holds his arms in the air and follows Ray around like Frankenstein.
C. Varejao received a technical foul for his troubles.

I’d like to think the referree gave Varejao a tech just because he was too scared to punch Ray in the face….. nobody likes a sissy.

I’m not talking about those sissy Dwight Howard dunks where you put on a cape and throw the ball in from 4ft away, I’m talking about those freight-train-running-over-your-mama-because-I-want-my-40-acres-and-a-mule LeBron James dunks. The good shit.

The good folks at Clemson University devised a system that measures the force of the dunk, and displays the data on the overhead screens instantly for everyone to see.

“Ray Sykes had a nasty dunk at the East Carolina University game,” said Jonathan Cox, one of the students working on the project. “It peaked at a little over 30 g’s, one of the highest recorded so far. That’s awesome when you consider an earthquake’s ground motion produces accelerations around point five and one g.”

If this system is ever implemented in the NBA… I’m sure the networks will create an easy-to-understand graphic called “The DUNK ‘O METER” or something equally lame.

I would have loved to see the force of Shaq’s dunks.. but 26 year old monster Shaq that tore down the rims.

2009 has started out kinda rough or Dwayne Wade, first his wife Siohvaughn (lol) accused him of giving her herpes and abandoning their two children, now a disgruntled former business partner is contacting the media with scandalous accusations. Richard Von Houtman and Wade teamed up for several ventures that included restaurants, car rims, sunglasses, and clothing, but everything tanked. Von Houtman is still a little salty about losing money, so now he’s giving us the dirty details about Wade’s desire to have sex with every woman on earth.

Von Houtman rented a $1.7 million, two-story apartment in Miami Beach to serve as the headquarters for their marketing company, Wade Global Enterprises, but come nightfall Dwayne used the place to make it rain on them hoes.

““It was a four-bedroom place on the first floor of a high-rise,” said Von Houtman, who through 2007 met with Wade and/or Andrews almost daily. “One day, I got a call from my cleaning crew at the apartment. I went down there and what I saw was disgusting. The apartment was trashed, filthy, and it wasn’t the first time.”

Von Houtman described used condoms on the floor of the bedrooms, obvious signs of sexual activities on all the beds, empty champagne and hard-liquor bottles, nearly-finished blunts and half-eaten food rotting on tables and furniture.

“They’d have these parties in there two or three times a week,” Von Houtman said. “There were always dozens of people in there. Rappers, Dwyane and his entourage, women they’d pick up in clubs.”

“They (Wade and Andrews) both made it clear to me how their goal in life is to have sex with as many women as possible,” Von Houtman said.

The sexy time didnt end there, Von Houtman claims that their restaurant chain failed in a matter of weeks partly because of Wade’s sexual escapades.

“Dwyane and Marcus would show up in the Fort Lauderdale location and round up the waitresses they thought were pretty. They’d disappear with them, leaving the restaurant short-staffed,” Von Houtman said. “They were sexual harassment lawsuits waiting to happen.

“Dwayne wanted us to built a VIP room in the Aventura branch (which never opened) that would be totally segregated, with its own bathroom and chaise-lounges. For what? We were serving food, not sex.”

This is only one side of the story, so we can’t take it as gospel, but I love how Dwayne Wade seemingly turned his business into a poon-factory. The high employment turnover rate would constantly churn out new women for him.. the fact that he may or may not have made money is secondary….. BRILLIANT!

and of course…. Wade’s people deny everything.

Wade’s publicist, Lisa Joseph, e-mailed this statement Monday afternoon: “It’s a shame that a disgruntled former business associate is peddling these fairy tales to fit his own personal agenda.”

I don’t have a problem with Dwayne Wade having illicit encounters with just about every woman he came in contact with, and I don’t have a problem with Dwayne Wade throwing away thousands of dollars in bad investments. But why would you even get married if you know you’re not ready to settle down and live that life?
