Usain Bolt Is Singlehandedly Making People Care About Track & Field Again

Most sports fans I know refuse to watch golf unless Tiger Woods is playing, and there’s a similar effect going on when Usain Bolt comes to the block for a race. People were absolutely mesmerized yesterday afternoon when Bolt smoked Tyson gay to set a world record in the 100m. Although the race lasted just under 10 seconds, fans were talking about how awesome it was for hours after the race.

I don’t know if it’s the fact that he seems to be having so much fun before, during, and after the race…. or the fact that he makes crushing his opponents look so damned effortless. All I know is…..it’s working… whatever it is.

This is the true mark of a superstar.

Katt Williams On Oscar Pistorius (From It’s Pimpin, Pimpin DVD)

Katt Williams released a new DVD called “It’s Pimpin, Pimpin” on Tuesday, and it contains a bit on South African Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius. In case you’ve never heard of him, Oscar is a double amputee who continues to participate in world class races thanks to his prosthetics limbs. There was a mild controversy before the Beijing Olympics when Pistorius was denied a spot on the South African team due to fears his new limbs could give him an “unfair advantage”.

Video: Marion Jones Interview w/ Oprah Winfrey

This is Marion Jones’ first interview since serving a six month prison term for lying to federal investigators regarding her steroid use. As previously reported, Marion claims she took “the clear” which was given to her by her trainer, but she was under the assumption that the substance was flaxeed oil, and not steroids.

However, once federal investigators presented her with a vial of steroids, she recognized the vial as the “flaxeed oil” she had bene taking. Faced with the sudden realization that she was unknowingly taking steroids… she lied and said she didn’t know what they were…. which is what ultimately led to her being sent to prison.

Allison Stokke Is Overrated

If you’ve visited any sports blog in the last year or two, you’ve most likely seen pictures of Allison Stokke and tons of people drooling over her. I guess I’m just one of those people who simply don’t get it, because I don’t see what the big deal is. This is no fault of Allison, because she can’t control how she’s covered … but jeez.

Is she attractive? Sure.
Is she any more attractive than the average woman on TV? Nope.

I’d much have one of the Track & Field Honeys from an earlier post.

Even though I was rooting against her in the women’s 100 meter dash, It didn’t take long for Shelly Ann Fraser of Jamaica to win me over in her post race interview. This is probably the most adorable athlete in the entire Olympics, if you only want to see the interview (the best part), skip to the 4 minute mark in the video.

She just makes you wanna say “awwwwwwwwwwww” and pinch the hell out of her cheeks.

One thing I’ve always loved about the Olympics, is that even if you aren’t interested in a particular sport you can always check out the ladies as a last resort. Notable exceptions are sports like weightlifting, where the women look like Hulk Hogan, ugh.

Tyson Gay Had A Very Untimely Charlie Horse

Last week, Tyson Gay set the American record in the Men’s 100 at 9.77 seconds. In the final, he ran the fastest time ever recorded at 9.66 seconds but the time couldn’t stand due to wind conditions.

This week…………well.. this week didn’t go so well. Gay suffered a leg injury during the first turn on the Men’s 200m today and took a nasty fall. Tyson says his latest “injury” is just a cramp, but ultimately we’ll see if its serious.

Marion Jones Enters Federal Prison

Former track star Marion Jones began her six month federal prison sentence this afternoon at the Federal Medical Center Carswell, located on the Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. It appears Marion got “somewhat” of a deal because this particular prison specializes in medical and mental health services, but has select inmates who don’t require that kind of care (Jones).

After frequently denying ever having used performance-enhancing drugs, Jones admitted she had lied to federal investigators in November 2003. Jones also admitted lying about her knowledge of the involvement of Tim Montgomery, the father of her older son, in a scheme to cash millions of dollars worth of stolen or forged checks.

I figured this would be the perfect chance to take a look back at our profile of Marion’s potential prison mates. Big Shirley will give Marion all the love and care she can muster.
