We’re One Step Closer to Pacquiao vs. Mayweather…

December 23rd, 2008 . by Dell

Every since Manny Pacquiao’s destruction of Oscar De La Hoya, many fight fans (including myself) are salivating at the possibility of Mayweather un-retiring to face Pac. A few weeks ago, Pacquiao’s trainer Freddy Roach gave the first positive sign, stating Pacquiao would fight him as long as it wasn’t at 147lbs. We’ve now received positive news from Mayweather that very well could lead to the megafight we’re all craving.

“Six months after announcing his retirement from boxing and walking away from his perch as pound-for-pound king and welterweight world champion, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has given the first indication that he is considering a comeback.

“Floyd has given Team Mayweather the green light to go out there and evaluate the biggest fights for him, to come back to him and present it to him. Then he will consider it,” Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather’s best friend and adviser, told ESPN.com on Saturday.

“If what we present him is something he’s interested in doing, he will do it.”

This translates to “find out how much money I can make for fighting Manny”. If the number is high enough… we could have a boxer’s dream come true next fall.

Let’s hope it works out.

Fight Night Round 4 Trailer

December 15th, 2008 . by Dell

I’m a huge fan of boxing, and I’ve been playing EA Sports’ boxing games since “Knockout Kings” in 1998. With that said, I’m really looking forward to Fight Night: Round 4 which should be dropping in late Spring/early Summer.

We still don’t have a confirmed list of all the boxers included in this edition of the game, but after viewing the trailer below…. we know that Ali and Tyson WILL be selectable characters!

Is this the first time Mike Tyson has been a playable character in a video game? As a lifelong boxing fan, and a lifelong video game fan… I’m PRAYING they put the “young Tyson” in the game and not the “old Tyson”. Anyways… take a look.

Bigger Destruction: Pacman vs. DLH or Mayweather vs. Gatti??

December 7th, 2008 . by Dell

After witnessing last night’s utter destruction of Oscar De La Hoya, it made me think back to the last time I watched a fight that lopsided. The answer was Floyd Mayweather vs. Arturo Gatti back in June of 2005.

The most brutal rounds of these fights came in the 6th for Mayweather, and the 7th for Pacquiao. The video below is rounds 5 and 6 of Mayweather’s fight, and below that you can see the full Pacquiao matchup. Which win was more impressive to you?

By the way, I live blogged the entire fight on Sportaphile’s Twitter Account, so make sure you add us to your friends list!

Video: De La Hoya / Pacquiao 24/7 – Episode 2

November 24th, 2008 . by Dell

One sad realization that has been made painfully obvious in the 24/7 series… is that elite prizefighters often resent their families for pushing them so hard in their youth.

Floyd Mayweather, Roy Jones Jr., and Oscar De La Hoya all have extremely troubled relationships with their fathers due to boxing,

And another thing… this is the entire episode but the last 90 seconds is missing due to problems with my internet. (you didn’t miss anything important).

Monte Barrett Tripping Over The Ring Ropes

November 20th, 2008 . by Dell

Last Saturday, Monte Barrett ran down the aisle, hopped onto the ring apron and attempted to hurdle the ring ropes…… instead he fell on his face. That proved to be a sign of things to come, because Barrett lost his matchup against David Haye.

You Big Dummy!
