On November 8th, Roy Jones Jr. and undefeated champ Joe Calzaghe will square off in NYC in a bout that has major implications. If Calzaghe wins… he rides off into the sunset with a perfect record as one of the greatest champs in boxing history. If Roy Jones wins, he re-establishes himself as a great champion and sets up a megafight with Bernard Hopkins.
This is a clip from Bud Greenspan’s Kings Of The Ring, in which Muhammad Ali talks about how great Jack Johnson was. I watched this documentary a few nights ago at 3am and even though I was half asleep, what Ali said had me laughing my ass off in bed.
Ali was right though, any black man who was bold enough to marry and flaunt white women around during the early 1900s had to be absolutely insane…. and that was Jack Johnson.
When Bernard Hopkins dismantled Kelly Pavlik last week, he fulfilled his half of setting up a mega fight with Roy Jones Jr. All Roy has to do is defeat Joe Calzaghe next month and fans will most likely get to see a match we’ve been waiting on for years. Jones and Hopkins may both be over the hill right now, but they’re showing that they can still compete and put on entertaining fights. In the videos below you’ll see Roy chop it up with DJ Clue and talk boxing.
Why is a mixtape DJ interviewing Roy Jones for HBO? I have absolutely no idea. Judging by the questions Clue asks Roy in the videos below, he doesn’t seem to be much of a boxing fan, but I’ll leave that one alone.
By the way, Roy will shoot a 3 episode “24/7″ series that premieres this Sunday on HBO, I’ll be posting those for you guys.
Cameras caught up with Pavlik affter Bernard took him to school on Saturday night, and this is what he had to say:
“For crying outloud it’s not like he [Bernard Hopkins] is so good, I mean he lost to Jermain Taylor twice, and I beat Jermain Taylor twice. [The fight outcome] had nothing to do with his athleticism or craftiness, Jermain Taylor hit him at will, Calzaghe hit him at will. I’m not making excuses, I got my butt whipped, but I just had an off night.”
This is the kind of crazy talk people generate when they’re just a little bitter. U Mad Doggie???
Either the story of Floyd Mayweather being robbed of $7 million dollars is completely untrue, or he has the worlds hardest head (n/h). Just six weeks after the alleged robbery of his home, Floyd is back doing the video blog thing, this time he’s showing off a million dollar watch, and a hockey bag filled with god knows how much money.
What he does with his money is his business, but there are only two things about this that irk me.
1. The co-signing, asskissing weed carriers in the video with him, especially dude holding the camera. Very annoying.
2. Floyd is the best boxer on the planet, GET BACK IN THE RING!
