This moment marks a huge turn in the whole steroids-in-pro-sports ordeal. Up until now it’s just been about athletes looking for a way to gain an edge on their competitors, and possibly tarnishing their images or sport of choice. When someone died from years of steroids abuse, it’s been easy to just chalk it up to a self inflicted injury. If they wanted to take a risk to gain an edge… then they should rightfully suffer the consequences.

But now we’re to the point where people are being murdered for speaking to the authorities concerning steroids, and it leaves a really dirty residue on everything. Just a month ago David Jacobs spoke to the NFL and revealed the names of several players he supplied with steroids. This morning he and his girlfriend Amanda Jo Earhart-Savell were found shot to death in their home.

“According to ESPN the Magazine senior writer Shaun Assael, who had been in contact with Jacobs throughout May, Jacobs was reticent and nervous about the information he had and the people it implicated.

When explaining why he did not want to go public, Jacobs said: “The kinds of people I know about could put a bullet in the back of my head.”

As a fan… I’m like….. dude I just wanna watch the game. I don’t want to know people are being murdered because some knucklehead wants to score 70 points in a game, or hit five homers. It’s not really that serious.
