Keith Rivers is on my fantasy team.
Keith Rivers scores a lot of points for me.
Keith Rivers is now out for the rest of the season because Hines Ward broke his jaw in 2 places with a helmet to helmet “block”.
In October of last year, Major League Baseball tried to claim copyright over the “facts and statistics” of their sport, which would require web sites to pay licensing fees to provide fantasy baseball to fans. The courts of our great country promptly told MLB to kick rocks, and justice was upheld.
That ruling prompted CBS Sports to stop paying the NFL licensing fees for fantasy football, which has kicked off a legal battle that will undoubtedly last forever. The interesting thing about this case, is CBS is suing the NFLPA because the NFLPA threatened to sue them….. only in America.
CBS Interactive has filed a federal lawsuit in Minneapolis to clarify who controls the statistics that underlie its popular fantasy football games.
The lawsuit filed Wednesday claims the NFL Players Association has threatened to sue the company if it does not pay licensing fees for the statistics.
CBS seeks a court ruling saying that “the Players Association may not seek to control the use of player statistics in fantasy games and may not continue to extract money from CBS Interactive for the use of publicly available football statistics.”
Can you really sue someone for threatening to sue you? I guess it doesn’t matter since the real question lies with the money…. but it sure is weird.
I was watching ESPN’s First Take yesterday morning (guilty pleasure) when Jemele Hill mentioned a report that stated 93% of fantasy football players were white, and that blacks accounted for just 1.6% of the fun.
Coming from a black guy who’s been playing for seven years now, and a black guy who knows tons of other black people who play…. I find this report absolutely shocking. The statistics come from the Fantasy Sports Trade Association, who seem a little baffled by the data themselves. It makes me wonder how and where they conducted these polls to come to this conclusion.
“But honestly, I’m not surprised to learn that so few blacks are among the 30 million people who participate in fantasy sports. I’ve always thought that a lot of these guys (and 96% of them are guys) are nerds desperately in need of more sociable leisure-time activities. Leisure time for black folks historically consists of direct interaction, the kind of experience you get at a family barbecue or hanging out with friends. Sitting in front of a computer screen pretending to be Bill Parcells? Sounds like work to me.”
Eating ribs? Avoiding work?…. Where have I heard this before?……
