So Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith will be suspended for the first two games of the 2008 season for going “oops upside the head” on team mate Ken Lucas. According to Pro Football Talk, there are “rumblings” that Panthers management have grown tired of Smith.

He’s one of the most talented wide receivers in all of football, but it’s very clear that the guy has serious anger management issues. As a GM, would you be willing to overlook Smith beating the snot out of one of your other players every year or so?

Winning and production means everything in the NFL (unless its Terrell Owens, he’s the anti-christ ya know!). The Dallas Cowboys used to overlook the fact that Charles Haley was a manic depressive crazy who masturbated in team meetings because they knew he was a damned good player.

Video: WNBA Fight, Starring The L.A. Sparks, The Detroit Shock and Candace Parker

July 22nd, 2008 . by Chuck

This will probably be the most press the WNBA gets for the next 12 months, which is sad because the discussion will have nothing to do with the actual game. The Starting Five seems to think Rick Mahorn’s decision to push Lisa Leslie to the ground will have harsh implications.

The skirmish started moments after Candace Parker and Detroit’s Cheryl Ford had to be separated after Ford fouled Parker.

On the next possession, Parker got tangled up with Detroit’s Plenette Pierson and fell to the ground. As she was getting up, Pierson intentionally ran into her, setting off the melee.

Parker threw a punch at Pierson before being tackled by Detroit’s Deanna Nolan. Players and coaches from both teams joined in, and Mahorn knocked Lisa Leslie to the court at one point.

“I was trying to protect the whole game, the integrity of the game,” he said. “The WNBA is very special to me because I have four daughters. I don’t even raise my hand to them, and I would never push a woman. This game, I love this game too much.”
