Aaron Rodgers led Greg Jennings over the middle in tonight’s game, and the Saints made them pay dearly. Rodgers was intercepted multiple times, but this particular play was one of the most demoralizing.
I give Greg Jennings all the props in the world for actually holding on to the ball, because Harper absolutely CRUSHED him. I’ve included 2 animated .gifs plus video….. check it.
Vikings kick returner Charles Gordon suffered a NASTY looking leg injury at the hands of Desmond Bishop just now. Bishop’s weight comes down hard and catches Gordon’s foot in an awkward position, which twisted his entire leg in a motion it wasn’t designed to go. From the looks of this, Gordon’s season is probably over.
Notice the look on Adrian Peterson’s face as he walks off the field, that will tell you everything you need to know.
I caught this excellent post over on Sports On My Mind that asks why ESPN purposely decided not to cover a story that paints Brett Favre in a bad light. In case you aren’t familiar with the news this week, Favre has been accused of calling the Detroit Lions coaches and giving them insider info about the Green Bay Packers offense.
Instead of putting the story on their site immediately like they do with everything else, ESPN didn’t bother covering it.
Just to give you a frame of reference, SOMM says ESPN has posted 24 Pacman Jones stories this week. Hell, they even had a story about Marcus Vick’s legal troubles…. talk about scraping the bottom of the barrell for material.
Why is ESPN protecting Favre?
Has the story not been included just because FOX’s Jay Glazer broke the news?
Part of the joy of sports from a fan’s perspective is finding a team or player to hate. Sure, it’s great to root for your home town team, it’s great to follow a team for your whole life and stick with them through thick and thin, it’s great to want someone to succeed.
But on the flip side, you can’t have a hero unless there’s a great villain nearby.
When Tom Brady blew out his knee in the opening game of the season, it left a void deep in my soul. Here we are approaching week 3 and I find myself unsatisfied… I simply don’t have anyone I strongly dislike enough to root against. I need to pray for the demise of a good team and their leader to save my NFL season.
By process of elimination…. Aaron Rodgers will step into Tom Brady’s shoes as my most hated athlete of 2008. Unlike Tom, Aaron hasn’t done anything to me or my favorite teams…. but the fact that he’s doing so well coupled with the sour taste of how the Packers front office handled the Favre situation makes him a prime candidate.
Right about now.. you’d be hard pressed to find anti-Aaron Rodgers folks on the internet, he’s doing so damned well that his haters are silent. But not I…..It’s never any fun to root against a team that already sucks, and I needed to choose someone successful.
This is probably one of the biggest falls from grace in football that doesn’t involve dogfighting, drugs, or jail time. Just four years ago, Culpepper had one of the greatest seasons for a quarterback in NFL history, but as of now he’s unemployed and seemingly unwanted by the entire league.
The logical question to ask is…. what happened?
Aside from suffering a catastrophic knee injury his last year in Minnesota, he’s had two major obstacles that have blocked his road to success. The first hindrance is the fact that he’s played for two of the worst teams in football for the last three years. He left Minnesota and landed in Miami, a team that had NO offensive line to protect him and atrocious coaching. Daunte was doomed before he even took the field. Culpepper then left Miami for Oakland, who were a similarly bad team, with an equally bad line, and even worse coaching than the Dolphins.
