Video: Richard Collier’s 1st Televised Interview Since Shooting

December 8th, 2008 . by Dell

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier sat down with ESPN in his first televised interview since being shot 14 times which left him paralyzed from the waist down.

This is a really good watch, and well worth the 9 minutes. Check it out.

Roger Goodell, Please Check Yo Self!

November 6th, 2008 . by Risse aka TownBiz

roger goodell needs to stop itWhere is the NAACP when you really need them??? Michael Vick, Pacman Jones, Cedric Benson and every other troubled black NFL player should absolutely be up in arms! Being that this is the week President-Elect Obama made history, we at Sportaphile don’t want to pull out the ole race card. But NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell needs to stop playing games!

How in the hell is Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matt Jones still catching passes although he was charged with cocaine possession back in July?

Let me get this straight: Pacman is out effective immediately for getting into a scuffle with his own bodyguard, but Matt Jones is still starting in games even though he was caught by police inside a parked car allegedly cutting up cocaine with a credit card?

Hate him or love him, but Miami Dolphins Linebacker Joey Porter is actually right on the money this time:

“If I knew the answers, I’d still have 20 more thousand dollars,” said Porter, who was fined $20,000 last month for criticizing referee Ed Hochuli after a loss to Houston. “But I’m still trying to figure out how a guy gets caught with cocaine in his car and still plays the game and nothing happens.

“He got caught with cocaine and Matt Jones is still playing football. How does he get away with that? And then you fine people $20,000 for making comments to the media about the refs. The guy got caught with cocaine.”

Granted, Matt Jones was suspended for three games and is presently under appeal. But, in the meantime, Matt Jones is still actively in the lineup. If this was Pac or any of the other “thug life” players, would the same still be happening? Or would the media be defending them in claiming ‘due process?’ I think not. Matt Jones wants to toot toot, beep beep in parked cars? Then his ass needs to be suspended for violating the player personal conduct rules. Period! But no, he lives to see the next Sunday. And we hate to point out the obvious, but Mr. Jones is Caucasian….

So again, we ask: What is wrong with this picture, Rog???? Cuz we KNOW the brothers wouldn’t get the same pass from you AT ALL.

Richard Collier Got Shot, But He’s Not The Victim?

September 2nd, 2008 . by Dell

Image and video hosting by TinyPicOne of the dominant stories in the news today is the unfortunate shooting involving Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Richard Collier. Collier is in “serious but stable” condition after emergency surgery and theres been a good amount of concern for his well being from what I’ve observed.

However, I’ve observed something else that’s quite disturbing and I can’t understand it. There are fans and members who talk about Collier getting shot as if he committed some sort of crime. This post on ProFootBall Talk discusses how the Jaguars need to “clean things up” on their team, and then they go on to list players on the team who have been arrested in the last two years.

There are also fans in the comment section of this article that immediately question Collier being out of the house at 2:30am.

The last time I checked, Collier was NOT doing anything wrong at the time of the shooting, he was breaking no laws and was simply waiting on female companions. So unless he’s a married man and was cheating on his wife, why is it an issue that he was out at 2:30am minding his own business? Since when is it against the law to get some pussy?

Give me a break. You’d think they caught this man in the middle of robbing a bank the way people are talking.

I don’t want anyone to forget the way the media handled the shooting death of Sean Taylor. Before all the facts were out, everyone jumped to the conclusion that Taylor had somehow done something wrong although he was in his bedroom sleeping.

I think it’s incredibly irresponsible for the media to take these sort of stances before all the facts are out. Sometimes they speak as if black men can’t be the victims of random acts of violence unless they’ve done something wrong first.
