I caught an old rerun of the Chris Rock Show on HBO last night, and there was a bit where Chris goes to a boxing gym and polls everyone on the state of white boxing. Everyone he questions pretty much trashes white boxers, but I thought it was funny considering that things have changed in the last 9 years since this originally aired.
Joe Calzaghe, Wladimir & Vitaly Klitschko, Ricky Hatton, and Kelly Pavlik have emerged as elite boxers in the last few years…. so all hope wasn’t lost eh?
It’s Friday, and the big fight is tomorrow night! In this final episode of Jones/Calzaghe, the two men arrive in New York City while the entire city is in full celebration mode due to the election. Joe and his dad Enzo have 100% confidence that he’ll easily defeat Roy, but I think it’s going to be much closer than anyone anticipated.
Being that this is the last post I’ll make on the fight before it happens… I’m going to go against the grain and predict a Roy Jones win. I believe he has too much speed and power for Joe.
This is the second and final episode of Jones vs. Calzaghe 24/7, HBO focuses on Roy’s troubled relationship with his father and Joe Calzaghe’s final push in training before he leaves England. This definitely turned out to be one of the more lackluster 24/7 series since HBO started airing them a few years ago. Watching an older relaxed Roy Jones and Calzaghe who doesnt have much of a personality makes you realize just how entertaining Floyd Mayweather is to watch.
Roy and Joe will square off just five days from now on November 8th, who do you think will win?
On November 8th, Roy Jones Jr. and undefeated champ Joe Calzaghe will square off in NYC in a bout that has major implications. If Calzaghe wins… he rides off into the sunset with a perfect record as one of the greatest champs in boxing history. If Roy Jones wins, he re-establishes himself as a great champion and sets up a megafight with Bernard Hopkins.
When Bernard Hopkins dismantled Kelly Pavlik last week, he fulfilled his half of setting up a mega fight with Roy Jones Jr. All Roy has to do is defeat Joe Calzaghe next month and fans will most likely get to see a match we’ve been waiting on for years. Jones and Hopkins may both be over the hill right now, but they’re showing that they can still compete and put on entertaining fights. In the videos below you’ll see Roy chop it up with DJ Clue and talk boxing.
Why is a mixtape DJ interviewing Roy Jones for HBO? I have absolutely no idea. Judging by the questions Clue asks Roy in the videos below, he doesn’t seem to be much of a boxing fan, but I’ll leave that one alone.
By the way, Roy will shoot a 3 episode “24/7″ series that premieres this Sunday on HBO, I’ll be posting those for you guys.
