Trailer: New Muhammad Ali Documentary “Facing Ali”

April 23rd, 2009 . by Dell

If the Will Smith Ali movie, and the HBO Thrilla In Manila documentary were not enough for you, there’s a new doc on the way titled Facing Ali. This film is entirely composed of interviews with various boxers who faced Muhammad Ali back in the day it and it looks like a must see.

While the other films took a broad approach and covered things that happened outside of the ring, it appears that Facing Ali might be a little more straightforward and stick to the ins and outs of the actual fights. Check it….

After 24 Years, Mike Tyson Is Finally A Playable Character

March 9th, 2009 . by Dell

fight-night-round-4-coverI know it seems unreal that one of the greatest boxers of all-time has never been a playable character in a video game, but it’s true. Mike Tyson’s “Punch Out” is one of the best video games ever but we were only able to control Little Mac, not the champ himself.

Between Tyson’s prison stints, drug problems, ear biting, and all-around ability to scare away any corporate entity…. game fans have been robbed of a chance to play as him in boxing games. All that changes in just a few months when Fight Night Round 4 hits shelves and I can’t wait. Everyone loves to have the classic debate “Who would win if Muhammad Ali fought Mike Tyson”, and now you can sit at the TV with your homies and make it happen. (for the record, a Kevin Rooney-trained 1987 Tyson would kill Muhammad Ali).

For those who played Fight Night 3, that ridiculous parry system has been toned down significantly and the mechanics of the game have been reworked from scratch. The career mode has been ungraded significantly and I’ve heard word that this game possesses some of the most amazing graphics that we’ve seen on next gen systems.

In the vid below you’ll see Tyson doing a little bit of promo.

Fight Night Round 4 Trailer

December 15th, 2008 . by Dell

I’m a huge fan of boxing, and I’ve been playing EA Sports’ boxing games since “Knockout Kings” in 1998. With that said, I’m really looking forward to Fight Night: Round 4 which should be dropping in late Spring/early Summer.

We still don’t have a confirmed list of all the boxers included in this edition of the game, but after viewing the trailer below…. we know that Ali and Tyson WILL be selectable characters!

Is this the first time Mike Tyson has been a playable character in a video game? As a lifelong boxing fan, and a lifelong video game fan… I’m PRAYING they put the “young Tyson” in the game and not the “old Tyson”. Anyways… take a look.

Video: Muhammad Ali on Jack Johnson

October 25th, 2008 . by Dell

This is a clip from Bud Greenspan’s Kings Of The Ring, in which Muhammad Ali talks about how great Jack Johnson was. I watched this documentary a few nights ago at 3am and even though I was half asleep, what Ali said had me laughing my ass off in bed.

Ali was right though, any black man who was bold enough to marry and flaunt white women around during the early 1900s had to be absolutely insane…. and that was Jack Johnson.
