Plaxico Burress a.k.a “Cheddar Bob” Shoots Himself

November 29th, 2008 . by Dell

As soon as I heard the news of Plaxico shooting himself in the leg, I immediately had visions of Eminem’s movie “8 Mile”, where Cheddar Bob shoots himself in the nuts during an altercation.

I’ve been known to side with players when they screw up (T.O., Ocho, Michael Vick) because everyone makes mistakes and deserve second chances. But Plaxico is a certified idiot, this guy is playing for the best team in the league and he’s all but guaranteed that they’re going to trade or release him in the offseason.

What Is A Free-Kick Field Goal?

November 23rd, 2008 . by Dell

At the very end of the second quarter in today’s Giants vs. Cardinals game, the Giants punted the ball to Arizona with 5 seconds left in the half. Arizona fair-caught the punt and then lined up for a “free-kick field goal”, which means the kicker gets to try a FG without the opposing team rushing him. There was no snap, and he got to take all the time he wanted to kick the ball.

I’ve never seen this before in my life (which is surprising considering how much football I watch), so I looked up the rules….and here they are.

What is a fair catch kick?

After a fair catch, an NFL team has the right to take a free kick from the line of scrimmage on the next play. If the kick goes through the uprights, the kicking team scores 3 points. It is also known as a “free kick field goal.”

What special rules apply?
1. There is no snap.
2. The defense must stand at least 10 yards from the line of scrimmage until the ball is kicked.
3. The kicking team may not use a tee. The ball must be placed or drop-kicked.
4. Even if time expired on the preceding play, the fair-catching team may still attempt the kick.

Update – Here’s a video of the fair-catch kick below

NFL Hit Of The Day – Week 8

October 26th, 2008 . by Dell

We all love to see players get the snot knocked out of them every week right? So from here on out I’ll try to provide animated .gifs of the best hits from the week of NFL action.

In this picture you’ll see Lawyer Milloy knock LJ Smith out of the game with a concussion. Milloy was flagged for laying wood on a defenseless receiver (you should notice that the ball was unreachable).

Are there any other hits I missed? Drop me a line in the comment section and I’ll hunt it down for ya.

Update: One of the commenters thinks the hit James Butler put on Nate Washington was the best of the week. In the .gif you’ll see Butler hit Washington so hard the ball pops up allowing an interception. It seems like Washington was really hurt because he lay there motionless, I didn’t watch the game myself so I’m not sure if he shook it off or not.

The NFL Can Have Ties To Nazi Sympathizers But Their Players Can’t Dance In The Endzone?

September 12th, 2008 . by Dell

The NY Giants & NY Jets will be moving into a fancy new stadium for the 2011 season and are currently in the process of selling naming rights to the venue. The Jewish community are in an uproar because a company called Allianz that contributed funds to the holocaust will possibly secure the bid.

“The company insured the Auschwitz death camp and had a chief executive serving in Hitler’s cabinet. The company is on the short list of those vying to slap their name on the Meadowlands stadium in New Jersey via a lucrative sponsorship deal.”

Now… the NFL is an outrageously image conscious organization these days. They don’t allow their players to endorse alcoholic products. They don’t allow their players to celebrate in the endzone. They have a strict personal conduct policy for employees. They have a strict dress code (players can be fined 10,000 for wearing the wrong color shoes).

It’s a crime for Terrell Owens to dance after scoring a touchdown, but the NY Giants are allowed to take money from a jew hating collective? What part of the game is that?

Where are your priorities Roger Goodell?

Update: The Giants have ended talks with Allianz.

“Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reports that talks regarding the possible sale of the naming rights for the new Giants Stadium to Allianz have ended.

“The New Meadowlands Stadium, LLC is no longer in discussions with Allianz for a naming rights partnership,” said the president of New Meadowlands Stadium, LCC, in a statement. “We are continuing discussions with other potential partners for the new stadium and look forward to the summer 2010 opening of this new icon for our region.”

Brandon Jacobs Welcomes Us Back To The NFL At LaRon Landry’s Expense

September 5th, 2008 . by Dell

Brandon Jacobs is almost too big and powerful to be allowed to play running back, my heart goes out to every safety and cornerback who stand between this wild bull and the endzone.

Last night LaRon Landry got absolutely DEMOLISHED after trying to tackle Brandon Jacobs up high. I’ve watched this .gif in amazement for at least 5 minutes.

Wanna see the .gif from a different angle????.. check this out below….
