Larry Fitzgerald & Thomas Jones Should Be Glad Their Name Isn’t Terrell Owens

January 4th, 2009 . by Dell

thomas-jonesTwo things happened over the course of the week that struck a note with me.

The first situation with Thomas Jones and Brett Favre….. Thomas went on a radio station and criticized Favre for turning the ball over too many times down the stretch. He also went on to imply Favre should have been benched, and hinted that he does not want Brett back on the team next year.

Do I have a problem with any of this? Absolutely not. Thomas Jones has a right to his opinion, and did the honorable thing and said this in the open, instead of acting as an “anonymous source” to bash a team mate.

The second story that struck a chord was Larry Fitzgerald being accused of domestic violence just days before the biggest game of his career. Not only was Saturday’s game the biggest day of Larry’s career, but it was also Arizona’s first home playoff game since the 1950s. Whether or not the allegations were true is anyone’s guess, but I was pretty shocked to see the media not touch this story with a ten foot pole.

I stepped back and asked myself, what would the media have done if Terrell Owens was the center of either one of these stories? They would have ripped him to shreds, called him a scumbag wife-beating-coward-who-cant-stop-throwing-his-quarterback-under-the-bus. Can you imagine the outrage on “NFL Live” if T.O. slapped a woman a week before the NFL playoffs started…. I can just hear Trey Wingo now… “he just doesn’t care about his team! he’s only thinking about himself!”

But of course, T.O. had nothing to do with this stuff…. so it doesn’t matter right?

Greg White Proves Black People Really Do Love “Teen Wolf”

December 15th, 2008 . by Dell

greg white teen wolfI don’t remember where I originally spotted this, but I read a celebrity interview where someone claimed that all black people loved the 80s Michael J. Fox movie “Teen Wolf”. Why do I remember this? It’s because my useless knowledge bank is second to none.

So what does this have to do with sports?

Greg White of the Tampa Bay Bucs has legally changed his name to Stylez G. White after a character in “Teen Wolf”.

“That was his best friend’s name,’’ White said. “I always liked that name. It’s not that I don’t like Greg White.’’

In the movie, [Michael J.] Fox’s friend is named Rupert “Stiles’’ Stilinski. White changed the spelling and adopted the name as his own.

We Should All Be Praying Dallas Wins This Sunday

December 11th, 2008 . by Dell

I realize that the Dallas Cowboys are a polarizing team in the NFL, and for every fan that loves them, there are three fans that hate their guts. But when it comes to this Sunday’s matchup vs. the New York Giants, we should all get behind Romo & the gang and hope for a win.

Why?

Because if Dallas loses this game, ESPN is going to launch a full scale assault with “Terrell Owens vs. The Team” bullcrap and we’re going to have to hear about it for the next three months. Even if you dislike the Cowboys, surely you will eventually grow tired of hearing every analyst on the network beat a dead horse for months on end, right?

It seems as if the ONLY way this team doesn’t completely implode in the offseason is if they at least go to the SuperBowl, but for now… I just want to get through the season.

Si Se Puede!
Yes we can!

MNF News & Notes: Antonio Bryant’s Amazing Catch, Arab Money Dance etc.

December 8th, 2008 . by Dell

Tonight’s MNF matchup between Tampa Bay and Carolina started off very slow, but grew increasingly entertaining in the second half.

1. I KNOW you guys saw Antonio Bryant’s amazing one hand catch in the fourth quarter right? Check it out:

2. DeAngelo Williams & Jonathan Stewart did the Arab Money dance.> They messed up on the first attempt, but the second try was a success.

3. Steve Young has EXCELLENT concentration. He was breaking down the game and someone in the stands threw a cup at him…. homeboy didn’t miss a beat.

(video coming in a second)

Why Was Tatum Bell Working In A Cell Phone Store 2 Weeks Ago?

November 16th, 2008 . by Dell

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Tatum, here’s a quick and dirty rundown. The Detroit Lions fired Tatum because they signed Rudi Johnson, so as an act of revenge (or desperation), Tatum decides to steal Rudi’s bags on his way out of the building. Tatum first tried to play it off as a practical joke, but security cameras and other people he tried to involve debunked his story. Therefore this left Tatum without a job and teams who may have been interested steered clear because he was now known as a locker room thief.

These circumstances led Tatum to pursue a new line of employment….. working as the manger of a cell phone store.

“”I had a job at the mall, man, just supporting my family, doing what I could do,” Bell said, adding the experience helped him become a better man. “I think it helped me mature and respect the real world. Now, I’ve really got a lot more respect for people that work 9-to-5.”

I know some of you may think Tatum did this to keep himself busy or stay grounded…. but the part of his quote that mentions “supporting my family’” makes me think he actually needed the money.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with earning a living in retail, but if you’ve been playing professional football for three and a half years you should have a little money to hold you over right? Was he so broke that he IMMEDIATELY needed to start filling out apps at the mall? I know rookie contracts can be small but jesus h. christ.

It’s scary how many of these guys make hundreds of thousands (and sometimes millions) of dollars, yet they are so close to poverty due to mismanagement. You may have just signed a $10 million dollar contract but you’re just 3 steps from working at Kinkos.

FYI… Tatum just signed a new 1 year/600,000 contract with Denver…. let’s hope things work out okay for him. 600k has to be like …… 20 years worth of Verizon Wireless kiosk pay right?
