For the last 3 or 4 days the blogosphere has been manufacturing fake outrage at this interview.
“Oh no, he’s badmouthing his team!”
“Why is he so selfish, just be quiet!”
“He’s wearing a green shirt with an eagle on it! That’s a subtle message!”
Oh please shut up. Terrell Owens is a 12 year veteran with the 2nd most receiving touchdowns in history. He wants a CHAMPIONSHIP RING. Why wouldn’t he get frustrated and want the offense to run smoother? Anyways… here’s the interview.
It’s pretty much common knowledge among football fans that the recent success of the Dallas Cowboys is due to Bill Parcells. He came in and rebuilt the team while instilling discipline and character which eventually grew the team into an NFC powerhouse.
When Parcells stepped down and Wade Phillips inherited the team, Phillips led the crew to a 13-3 record last year and took the credit, but folks know all he did was cash in Parcells’ chips. Cowboys players like Terrell Owens praised Wade Phillips because his laid back style is a stark contrast to the disciplinarian Parcells. I remember Terrell Owens once saying “Coach Phillips lets us be men” or something like that.
So fast forward to this season….
Dallas has all the talent in the world but they can’t execute, there’s no team chemistry, and theres no sense of leadership and accountability. These are all attributes that Parcells MUST have on his team, and I know he has to find some joy in seeing the mighty Cowboys come apart at the seams without him.
You can tell Warren Sapp is new to the sports analyst game, because apparently he hasn’t gotten the memo that he’s supposed to compare T.O. to the devil every chance he gets. While on the NFL network discussing how the Cowboys will do with Brad Johnson (who Sapp won a Super Bowl ring with), he had this to say:
“Asked what Johnson now will bring the Cowboys, Sapp said: “An accurate quarterback, a championship, someone that knows the ropes and how to distribute the ball. He’s played with worse malcontents than T.O. He played with Keyshawn (Johnson, Tampa Bay). Keyshawn was kicked off the team, away from us.
“Terrell Owens is a choirboy compared to Keyshawn. He’ll get the ball and distribute it and they’ll be fine.”
The experts on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown team have seemingly forgotten this about Keyshawn. So everytime I see Chris Berman, and Uncle Tom Jackson kissing Keyshawn’s ass it makes me sick.
It looks like the Nation Of Islam opened a new chapter in the gay district of San Francisco (or The Castro, for you local folks).
Terrell didn’t speak to the media after yesterday’s loss, but still managed to get people talking about this outfit.
[Part 1]
And by the way, I think the Cowboys will be fine despite Tony Romo missing 4 weeks due to a broken pinky. The next 3 games are against the Rams, Bucs, and Giants followed with a Bye week. They can win at least 2 of these games. All Brad Johnson has to do is hand the ball to Felix and Marion 25-30 times and the team will be okay.
I wrote a post a few days ago discussing why I thought ESPN’s coverage of Terrell Owens was unfair and sensationalized for the sake of their ratings. I swear to you, the way they drag Owens in the mud on NFL Monday Night Countdown goes way over the line in terms of being an objective analyst.
Terrell Owens appeared on a local sports show and basically echoed everything I’ve written in the past, he took shots at the network and went in on “Sheshawn” Johnson again. T.O. gladly mentions that he and Johnson were both drafted in 1996 (with Keyshawn being the #1 pick), yet Johnson is no longer n the league because nobody wanted him.
You can bet you bottom dollar, the Monday night crew is going to tear T.O. a new one three days from now…. mark my words.
